Well, what should one do without Youtube? A half world distance with a desire to find and play slack-key ...

I found this arrangement of the Fijian song Isa Lei

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxDnQgcPrcs&list=UUIGlj8tNwogU2rkCgDOMIPg&index=3&feature=plcp, actually from a positive comment to this player by Fran.

That led me to Fran's version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfNUcv4-Grg&feature=related

Two such different arrangements, yet the same beautiful song. A matter of taste really, but I'm with Fran on this

Beautiful piece!

Yes it is. Fran says in his comment:

John, I love your "Isa Lei" - it sounds exactly like many of the choral arrangements I've heard, much more authentic than mine.

Well ... well, well. If Fran says so

Here is an other in open D

Love that open D arrangement. Mine is a mix of a little bit of Ed Gerhardt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfnjSMVTWeY stirred into my interpretation of Bla Pahinui's vocal version from the Pahinui Brothers CD http://www.mele.com/hawaiianMP3s/207_02.mp3 .

Thanks for commenting Fran.

Yes, I as well find the open d arrangement very beautiful. I wasn't aware of that until today. I knew Ed Gerhard's before, he's got a baseline I not quite well gets a hold of.

Well again, I guess it's entirely up to taste, but to be and my ears (and heart) ... I guess I'm fascinated by two such different arrangements.

Fran, I'll just thank you for you being you. You and your videos are such a great resource and inspiration for me and my likes.
