Aloha all.
this is comeing together really nicely. Remember that we have parking issues up on top of the mountain so I will try to figure out how to make it work.
Does anyone else need directions?
See you all here on Mauna Hili!
Aloha,
Hili. |

E Hilinai! I've never been there, so a few directions would be good! I know the general area and I may come early to make the long drive worth it... Jesse Tinsley |

On Rich's behalf, I'll jump in with some names here --- In the photo labelled "luau2," L-to-R is dr. cookie, Rod (from SUPA), and hapakid. In "luau 1," you can see Susie, hapakid, Rod, slipry1, hilinai, thumbstruck, Uncle Danny (local Hawaiian musician & writer for NW Hawai`i Times), Kimo, Lori (retro's Alpha Female), and the back of neeej's & Rich's heads. I was just off to the right, between Lori & Kimo, playing bass.
Hili - that was one amazing party. Unbelievable food and great company - and the music? Wow! Everybody shone, even when they didn't know the songs. Thanks for opening your fantastic home to all of us, and mahalo nui loa to everyone who came and played and sang and watched and ate and drank and laughed. I had a bad headache all through the day --- and I didn't care a whit! Mele mana mania? =Gregg= |

The some else's head is mine. My apologies for not getting everyone in, but others took photos - as well as group shots - so I hope we get more photo contributions. Thanks for jumping in Gregg (Retro). Rich |

Aloha,
Mahalo Nui to You all for coming yesterday. It was heaven! The sweet music is still ringing in my ears, the culmination was magic, At one point I sat back and listened and could not believe my ears, the results were amazing, you guys sound like professionals -
And in fact, not sure if you guys realized but one of my friends there has a recording studio (in his home - he has pretty serious stuff) and puts out a Christmas CD every year among other various CDs etc.... (he's a real musician sort of like some of you are) and was so impressed that he wants us (whoever wants to be) on his X-mas cd this year, its his current project. We can talk about that later.
Doc - we need you to find us some Hawaiian Christmas music> for Jeans next deal.
Anyway, as thrown together as that was (and I do apologize for that - but it is Hawaiian style to be ly-dat)it was as perfect as it could be, in my mind anyway.
And a special Mahalo Nui to our special guest that made it up the moutain: To Uncle Danny for adding the real Hawaiian touch - countless solos and wonderful playing, and to Jesse with his ono voice, solos and unreal playing (is there anything you cannot play?) - and all the way from Idaho too boot - ten hours of driving in one day - what dedication), and to Kory (and his usual fantastic slack key) thanks for planning to be at my place and not the other 100 places that wanted/needed You, and to Jack and his fantastic steel guitar esp. on Akaka Falls and of course his haunting rendition of Haole Hula on my Kamaka (eh! how come she no can play em like datfo me?) and to Jean and Susie for singing Jean's new song about my place (now officially dupped "Mauna Hili")- That song Rocks, pls teach em to me next time - I'll come early!, and to Greg and Lori for your wonderful solos and backup uke playing and Greg on the bass too - you guys are great!) and for bringing new friends too, Rod and John (hope to see you guys at Jean's)those guys are too good!, and for sure to Jim for setting up the mics etc.... and for the great back up instrumental and vocals too(sure was better singing nicely and not having to scream our heads off to get over the multiude of ukes and guits and basses too), and all the regulars at Jean's place that showed(Jay, Rich, etc..... thanks guys for the back up) wish more could have made it, and oh yes of course, thanks to the Doc for everything - Only the Doc can cookie like he do - you are really getting good at that solo thing - you mus be practicing. btw, we do need to do Uilani in C - G will buss out our vocal chords, too high brah - we not dey yet, but we workin on em. And to the peanut gallery for cheering us on and not laughing too loudly when we screwed up (we had a couple of those too - mostly mine) and for the clean up support too.
Oh yeah - and to all for letting me lead sometimes knowing you will have to catch up or mostly slow down - cause I'm from Papakolea - and we do everyting moslow deya! Ass da way it is - brah. Like my bradah says - if you lead, dey gotta follow - no choice.
In a word - it was "Lovely" ,and I thank you all for that.
Aloha,
Hili. |

I thought it was, but since I thought you took the picture, I wondered "how can that be?" Thanks, Rich. Note: original post is now corrected, which makes Rich & my follow-ups more confusing, if you didn't see the earlier version. Sowing confusion & chaos - I love my work. |
