Kona Kitchen opens about 8am, so I'll try to be there about 8:30. Slipry1 will be inculcating valuable skiing lessons to keiki in the frigid mountains. I have to work Saturday to catch up from the weather, but 4:30 at Jean's is a definite go. The fried rice and scrambled eggs at Koan Kitchen are especially tasty.

I'll be at Neej's Satruday. It'll be good to see you, Mark. I'll have string gauge data with me for the C13 tuning. I had 2 lessons from Alan Akaka while I was in Hawaii. As is typical, I'm doing a lot of re-evaluation of my playing style. As Kory mentioned, I'm teaching at Snoqualme Summit for PowderPigs, a ski school for keki's. I spend most of my time sideslipping and skiing backwards (on purpose)to check on progress, so I'm really sore. I have 5 8 year old's, who are all great kids. I'm sorry I have to miss brunch on Sunday. Our last session was fun.

Aloha,

I'm planning for Saturday too, barring snow, wind, floods etc......

Sorry I missed last week - I started down the hill and it starting snowing to beat the band causing my wife's 4 wheel to slide effortlessly for 100 ft or so, so I decided to turn back before committing myself down the big hill (i.e. the point of no return), thats when I called you to cancel.

can't wait to see you all soon.

Aloha,

Hili

Aloha Jean for hosting as usual, Like was said above, this was one of the biggest and best. I had a wonderful time eventhough I feeling a little under the weather with the flu. The music made me feel mo-beddah.

And thanks to Uncle Danny and Mark for coming out too. It was fun playing with you too pros and we love the great input and the new songs.......

btw, if anyone is interested in continuing the next kani at my house since Jean will be gone, let me know. If we have enough interest then maybe we should do it?

Would you guys post something about your experiences on Oahu and playing with Led? We'd like to hear some stories...

OK. Here goes. We got into Honolulu around noon on Thursday and drove over to Kailua, where we stayed with friends of Thumbstruck. We went into Honolulu that evening to hear Auntie Genoa. Alan Akaka was playing steel with her. We said hi to Auntie and passed greetings from Uncle Danny and Iwelani. I asked Alan for a steel lesson, and he said he'd give me one on Friday. He's only playing with Auntie and giving lessons these days, in addition to his day job. What a nice guy! Oh - most days started with a walk on the beach and lunch at the nearest L&L. Stops for beer were frequent, and I spent the week in search of the perfect mai tai. My lesson was fantastic, but I have to relearn a lot and get rid of some bad habits! At the end, Alan invited me back for one more lesson. That evening, the bunch of us staying in Kailua went to the Art Museum to see the taping of a show with Led Ka'apana, Dennis Kamakahi, George Kuanamoko (sp?), Jr, Richard Ho'o'pi'i adn others. Then we went to Chinatown for great chep eats. Kory called Led on Saturday morning, and he said that he'd like to play with us in the evening, so we packed our stuff and drove to Waikiki where Led has a gig at the Mai Tai Bar at the Royal Hawaiian. We were sipping our mai tai;s when Led showed up. He sked us "Where' your instruments? You play wid me." We went back to the car and got them. We sat in on his second set - there we were, with Diamond Head behind us, surfers and catamarans coming in and out, sipping mai tai's and playing with Led - life doesn't get any better!! After the gig he said "You come with me. We have baby luau in Kane'ohe. So, we folowed Sharon & Led to the community center, where we feasted and played. After that gig, as we were packing up, Led said "Tomorrow at 5 at the Kona Brewery in Hawaii Kai." Then off to bed. Sunday, we headed off to go to Honey's to see Eddie Kamai and the New Sons of Hawaii. We got there early. I asked the waitress if Eddie was going to be there, and she said "He's sitting behind you". Eddie sat down with us, shared some of our wine (no mai tai's today) and talked story for about an hour. He also sent greetings to Iwelani The band came in and started to play (without Eddie, who went back to his regular table), and in walked Led to sit in with them! BTW, Paul Kim was on steel. He is a member of Byrd's Nest (students of Jerry Byrd). He can sing falsetto real good AND play harmonics at the same time! Led got done about 4:30, packed up and said, "Come on boys, we got gig at 5:30. When he heard that, Eddie got up and did a couple of numbers for us. He hasn't lost anything at 79! We drove over to Hawaii Kai and did the gig with Led. He had us (Da Uddah Guyz) do a mini-set of our own. He invited us to his house to jam on Wednesday. On Monday we were going to go to the Aki Bone to see a band with a friend of Kory & Dr. Cookie's (fill in here, TS), but the paper said they were going to play Tuesday. The paper was wrong, so we missed them. I did have my second steel lesson from Alan. It went much better. Tuesday we did the toourist trip in Pearl Harbor and went to the Honolulu Aquarium. That night I treated the crowd to diner at Buzz's in Kailua. We spent Wednesday shopping for souveniers, then went to KLed's to jam with his ohana. Thursday we shipped out. We also missed Hili's brother, unfortunately. I'm going back in April for the 2007 Hawaiian Steel guitar Convention. What a week! Oh, it rained almost every day, starting around 4pm and continuing until 8 the next morning, so no relief from Daikon leg. Days were partly cloudy, so no tans. Hey, Kory - fill in what I missed.

This is Gregg, jumping the queue here...I'm in Kane`ohe now (visiting family & doing business until Thursday), where it's not raining...yet (you know what they say every day on the radio weather reports: "Windward chance of mauka showers...")

Jack, some of us NEVER get tans, you know - we just hope to get enough sun to neutralize the blue tint of our flesh; the best we can do is "dark pale."

Hoping to see Eddie Kamae, Mike Kaawa, et al. on Sunday; also hoping to pop in and catch Ray Sowders in Waikiki while we're both on the same island.

We now return you to the "Kory & Keaka Represent TaroPatch Well" Show - sounds like you guys had such good fun!!! (See you on the radio soon, Jack.)
