Aloha -
There's a wonderful story about the Aloha Music Camp in the current Aloha Airlines in - flight magazine "Spirit of Aloha."

Mahalos to Joana for the great words, Rikki for the awsome pictures, and to Aloha Airlines.
Check it out! Mark

Nice account of what is was like for Joana. Guess the only thing better is actually being there. Just a little more than two months, can't wait. Got a picture or Kaluakoi golf course too. Hey Mark, if we go golfing on Feb 5 in the am, is there an easy way to get from the golf course to Kaupoa Beach? ...like is it a long walk or what? Also, what's the snorkeling going to be like out there? Thinking of stopping off in Kihei to pick up the snorkel gear at my brother-in-laws place? ... ahh so much fun already to work out da details.
Anyone else out there planning on the Winter Camp?
Laters, Sil

It would be a very long walk from the golf course to Kaupoa. Doable, but long.
I'm afraid I don't know much about the golfing & transportation situation, sorry. I'd suggest talking to the pro-shop; let me know what you find out.
I do know of at least one more golfer who's coming in Feb -- maybe you guys could co-ordinate something?

That one I know: in fact, there's a FAQ about it. http://www.alohamusiccamp.com/FAQs
Basically, it may be great or not, depending on local wind, weather and surf conditions. Like every other beach in Hawaii in the winter. I was just on Maui -- one day Honolua was calm with fantastic snorkling -- the next day it was breaking 15 feet.
Kaupoa beach is a small semi-protected cove, best snorkling is near the rocks on both sides. If the waves are real big (always a possibility in Hawaii, and especially so in winter) don't even think about it. There is a very protected cove -- Dixie beach -- about a 15 minute stroll away.
I always bring my snorkel stuff, cuz you just never know.
How's that?
see you soon!

Oh Mark! Mahalo nui for posting the link - it sure takes me back to an interesting and moving time. And Sil - if you can't snorkle at one time, I'd guess you'll find another. It's very enjoyable. I found some o'pihi - and out pretty far in about 6' of water, a pareo! So you know it also gets windy. the rain was really neat. I recorded various parts of our lessons, and on most you can hear that when we start to play, the birds join in and sing with us. In Feb, I'd guess you might like a shortie wetsuit. Have a wonderful time!! n |
