I worked at a catering place once. I told a new guy that the boss wanted to mix the pancake batter for the next morning, but I forgot to tell the newbie just to mix the dry ingrediments. He added the eggs, the buttermilk and a quart of sourdough starter. The mess in the morning was like a B-movie! The blob had "eaten" the back of the kitchen and was crawling towards the ovens-- 10 hours of gluten and yeast had created a mess worthy of a jackhammer and a set of cold chisels. My boss just laughed all morning the next day.
Eh, Ed, does dat qualify foa one "Pordagee Moment"?

When I started out as an apprentice ironwoker,I think I spent two weeks in da prefab yard making columns, caissons, and sheer walls if feasible.Since I"ve always been a fast learnah, they needed me out in da field, which is a whole different ball game. They just happened to throw me with a crew who had been workin together for some time, the project was ko'olani highrise.I was eager to get in there and contribute, except one of da journeyman had adda ideas. We were out on da deck wen in front of erybody he shouts for me to go get da 6-10 pull bar, what you guys gotta realize is iron workers work at a very fast pace.In fact wen we say iron coming chru all adda contractors scattah,da iron is heavy,if you no move your stuff we goin bury em.So I'm running back and forth lookin for da 6-10 pull bar, guess wat? dea is no such a thing, not only dat but eryone knew, sub contrctors and all.Only wen I saw some braddahs laughing did I realize da joke was on me.I got scolding from my foreman who said "lolo if you dunno, jus ask".Aftah dat I made sure to ask about eryting, das jus one of many stories dis baboose get.Aloha

Braddah duke, maybe rank sergeant baboose for dat one.Wen I was workin on da ko'olani project, planny funny kine stuff happened wea I believe up to eight hawaiian's were buried. The site had da ceremonial blessing, but tings kept happening.Big tractor crane was bein inspected, and greesed as part of maintenance, with da boom up at about 40 degrees the cable suddenly snapped crushing a backhoe, and delivery truck.Another time they were pumping concrete up to a floor wen da boom came crashing down on da deck, and yet anadda time wit da tractor crane it was lifting da big compressor, wen da sling wen bust, sending da compressor crashing to da ground. On dis project we have both a tower crane and a tractor crane which is used for lifts not to high but within reach, well one time we heard da customary bup bup from da horn, which means look up,and heads up,load overhead. Now dis one time we hea bup bup buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup, wen I wen look up dis hea crane's boom was coming right at da building, you gotta realize dis crane is big,so it looks like slow motion. What happened was dat da drivah wen boom ovah at 90 degrees where his tracks are at dea narrowist, but dis drivah he too good, knowing he at da point of no return,he wen aim da boom for one steel column dat we wen set da adda day,so wen he hit da column, she wen act like one shock absorber saving da deck, and most important lives. Now you ask wat dis get fo do wit da baboose moment of da day? Wen erybody was scatterin,I saw one guy runnin only fo trip and fall, and slide on his stomach, grab a hold on one electricians conduit wit his hand, thus swingin his leg around wit da momentum right off da deck to da next floah, and guess wat? One perfect 10 on da landin.I talked to him at da safety meeting dey wen set up da next day,he still nevah believe wat wen happen.BUT while eryone was scattering wen da crane was coming down one guy was running fo get out of da way,but guess wat? Dis baboose goin grab da water jug as he running, try figga dat one out,I wen bring dis up at dat safety meeting, and even point him out,to which erybody wen laugh.I wanted dat baboose fo learn from dat situation. Now das one lucky baboose.Plus he win baboose of da day award.Aloha

Eh, Braddah Ed - don't you have any babooze stories? Wot, you nevah get babooze moments? And Peter, you said you've been there, too. You gotta cough up the stories. Eh, can embellish if you want.
And Glennpachi, too. I know you got da edumakashun, but.

In dat film about Robert Cazimero's Halau o na Kamalei, one da haumana guyz has nickname Babooze. I tink he one fyaman. I wonder if he knows dat CUTE Ocean Kaowili.

Babooze. Portuguese and / or Spanish: "vavoso" --literally "slobbermouth".

Q: How can you tell the porch is level?
A: The banjo player drools from both sides of his mouth.
Not sure if that also aplies to Portuguese / Spanish peoples. Do they play banjo, too?

I hope Al no get mad da noodle slurping. We just havin good fun. First time we ever went to Hawai`i we went to a Japanese noodle restaurant in Waikiki. I ordered udon. So very good. But they gave us chop sticks to eat the noodles. Yikes. Good thing the waitress looked at us and figured haoles like us need spoon and fork. Where do you get the fishcake stuff they float on the soup? Is it store bought or do you make it yourself? I liked it and it is very pretty, makes a very nice garnish.

Braddah Ed - does that noodle smiley guy have one girigiri?
