Actually, school did staht today. Bud I no need go until Wednedsday – getting ready fo sen my dawda off to NYU fo da second yea. She’s doin real real good, so we gotta send her back. Cost about won Mercedes dis yea, good ting we get equity in da house. N coz I was on sick leave last semesta and I wozon won murda trial jury laz fall dat went fo like ten and a haf weeks, woz jezlike I wen miss won hole year. So had plany werk lidat fo ketchup, woz bus azz.
Anden laz yea becoz da football team wen get plany recognition nationally anda football announcers on TV wen say day da facilities on UH campus suck not jez atletics but mostly everywea, da higha powas wen decide too renovate some a da schools yeah. An da music depahtment stay won of doze coz make ass yeah. So like fo da firz time since da depahment wos bilt fifty yeas ago dey stay changem on da old paht.
Da roof stay literally falling down around us guys. Da olda part of da complex was taking gas wen rain. My office stay in da concert hall on da top paht. Wen rain my office get won watafall eensai. Byron Moon’s office (Petah Moon’s cousin) iz unda my office, his office becomes won lake. I had too move my office an stuff from won end of da complex to da udda. Was hard, I walk wid won cane now.
Anden somebody wen dey firz design da bildings and fo da newa bildings get da brite idea dat eh we don’t need windows coz get ea conditioning anden we go use da chill wata system fo alla da bildings lidat. Andn dey still following da same plan. But guess wot? Wen da ea conditon no werk in won room dey gotta shut da hole system. I cannot believe we pay deeze guys money fo make tings werse. But den deeze are reel hard times now so I shouldn’t be complaining. Dea fixing almos eryting – get like about 15-20 guyz werking evryday lidat, dey wen tare up allada concrete so nomo sidewalk lidat. Anden da book had too wait lidat hah coz had choke werk and planning fo da school yea. But da book stay almos pau now. I tot woz goin be pau in July but looks mo like da next couple weeks.
Anden I took my family Kaua`i. Woz da bomb. Woz good becoz nevah had cellphone, computa oa da intanet – I woz outta contact so to speak and it felt reel good – jez cruizin wid da family. Kaua`i iz da emarald of alla da islands. I yusta go dea allada time wen I woz in high school anden college fo surf so I knowem pretty good.
We stayed at won good old hotel on da beach in Waialua dats gonna go change to time share pretty soon. Can tell times are hard on Kaua’i coz plany bizeneses stay closing lidat, its sad. But at least get plany chickens running around so if you get hungry can make chicken soup wid togan and ginger.
Won day da monk seal stay snooze in front on da beach so you kenna go neadem I undastand dat and keep my distance. Butden got alla deeze self appointed old buck do-gooders who in da old dayz woz probably guyz from Taylor camp (hippies lidat) who look out fo da seals which is good in won way but kinda reaching ova dea actual autority. And dey give you stink eye lidat wen you go take won picha lidat of da seal. Bud me becoz I get plany grey hair too anden walk wid won cane I go make like I no can hea anden go take da pichas wid da telephoto lens. An allada time I can hea deeze old bucks saying “excuse me sir, excuse me sir” andey raising dey voices coz dey tink I no can hea anden I hea dem swearing coz dey no tink I can hea. I turn around smile at dem make like I neva hea dem swear at me anden watch dem deflate. Woz good fun. Kden keep you fella posted.

Petah is sending his dawda back to school in NYC. Yikes. Talk about as diametrically opposed to Hawai`i as can be. Once I went there in early 90's. Worst trip of my life. Ever. I went with my brother in law. Mistake number 1. We stayed at the Omni Hotel (I do not know if it is still there), which was on I think right across from the Russian Tea Room. When we pulled up there after driviing all day from Cleveland, the bell captain asked my brother-in-law what he wanted to do with his car. Alan told him to park the car because his notes from work travel people said they had a garage. It was $26 per day to park the car. Back in the early 90's!!!! Got trapped in the hotel when I got up early one morning with a very low blood sugar and had to run downstairs for a snack right away. No makeup, no wash hair, no socks, no ironing, etc. Then elevator door didn't want to let me out. Was a fire alarm in the hotel. I was starting to freak, trapped in an elevator during a fire. I just knew I was going to fry. Then it dawn on me to push the door open button since the elevator was at the first floor. Hooray. Door opened. Finally after about one hour they let us back in the hotel and I waited and waited for an elevator to take me back to my floor and the danged fire alarm went off again, but at least this time, I knew to push the door open button. Then that night we had dinner in the hotel restaurant. I had never seen a restaurant where you had to pay extra for the salad, extra for the bread, etc. Was was expensive meal. Was a garbage strike going on while we were there. Then one day I decided I wanted to go to Macy's and I knew it was just straight down the same road where was our hotel, only about 30 or so blocks, I think. I figured, can do, because I used to walk about that far to go to college after work when I worked in down town Cleveland befo time. Well, I walked and I walked and I walked and I walked. My feet started hurting. I had blisters on my feet, so I figured I would take a cab when one came by. I never saw a stinkin' cab the whole way. Then I finally got there and went in the store and didn't even buy anything. Too many kala for me. I never saw a department store what sold like pate and stuff lidat. Not that I would eat any critter's liver. Then I found out I didn't see a cab because certain times of the day only permitted on every other street and the street I was walkiing on was not one of them. The next day Alan had off from going to his training class so we went to stand in line at some ticket place I think it was on Broadway and I think it was called "TKTS". No mo no how fo spell in NYC. We waited in line about 3 hours and finally when we got up to the front, none of the shows we wanted had TCKTS. We had to see some really weird show by a relatively unknown guy named Andrew Lloyd Weber. It was called Starlight Express and it was some very weird Cinderella kinda story but the people weren't people they were trains. It was like the diesel train against the steam train or someething lidat. All the cast were dressed up like trains and the whole show was done on in-line skates to make them move like trains. Vissual, it was swell. Story wise it was dumb. Then walking on the way back to the hotel after a shown, some guy panhandled Alan and Alan did not give him any money and the guy said something to the effect that Hey man, I'm hungry and you so fat, you can spare the money. Then Alan was depressed for like the whole rest of the week because the guy called him fat. Then after his class one day we wanted to take one tour of the city. We took a Grayline tour but the bus was packed. I tried to sit iin one seat by myself and Alan in another by himself, but the driver made us sit together. Alan was a very, very large man. I could not fit on the seat with him. I had to sit on the chrome pipe strip at the edge of the see. Well, not exactly on it, but with the pipe, well, in between my buttocks, if you must know. That is why I nevah will wear thong bebedees. Not comfortable. Otherwise, was a good tour. Then anoddah day we stay go see Statue of Liberty. For about 15 minutes. We waited and waited and waited to get a ferry ovah dea from I tink it was Battery Park (I did not see a single AA or even AAA and sure no 12 V). Wen we got gea, to go insai wait was 45 min. from wheah da sign stay, but last ferry outa deah only 20 minutes. Az y hahd. Den noddah day we decide to got to world trade centah go way up da elebaytah. More wait in da line if can beleeve. Had to pay plenny kala just fo ride one elbaytah to top da world trade centah. Was quick ride, yeah. Den we go up dea and was one nice vista but. Alan wanted to play spit off da building and he stay 5 years oldah den me. I tink mebbe I was about 38 or so, so he stay in his 40s. And he wanted fo play spit off da top. I could just peecha us in da hoosegow. I went far away from him in case he did spit, dey no tink I his frien. Den we time fo go back to hotel, we get one cab. I tink it costed choke kala. Den while we sitting at stop light, we see da cops chasing some guy on foot and dey have dey guns drawn. Ho, da skeah me. Den da bad guy try fo get in da with wit us! Good tiing da doahs stay lock. Skeah me summoah. Den next day I go to Central Paka by myself while Alan at da training. I step one foot insai da paka an one derelict kine guy wot in Cleveland live undah da freeway bridges, he squat down and do something shoulda been in da lua (not shishi). Right on da sidewalk in front erebody. Skeah me. I go back to hotel room and stay deah until time fogo home. Funny ting dey chahj kala for go on da Geo Washington bridge to get into NYC. But no chahj for get outta dea. Seems like mo peepo willing to pay to get out.
So I shuah hope you dawda, Petah, have mo bettah time. Andy, she can be you hanai college dawda. Den Petah no have fo pay da Mercedes, can only pay foah one Impala. Best wishes to youah dawdah for success in school and safety and hapiness in da big appo.
Wen owah dawda was at Univ. of stinking Cincinnati, we paid one swell kaa foah go hiamoe on plastic mattress in da dorm all patch up with duct tape. I am so glad she came home and went Kent State. But I onliest get 2 moah payments foah da Cincinnati boondoggle.
And owah dawda wot wen Cincinnati is leaving foah da High School Musical on Ice west coast tour tomorrow. She flies to Memphis and from there points west. Won't be home again until NEXT MAY! My baby won't be home for Christmas. Ah dunno.
But she will be in Seattle for Thanksgiving. |

Quote:"I think it was called "TKTS". No mo no how fo spell in NYC" I think in NYC you must hafta pay for a vowel. Zz Wh Hrd. Why you want to scare Peter about his daughter in New York? He got enough to worry about, buying a Mercedes and he won't even get keys for it. Cincinnatti wasn't much to brag about. I went to move her back home for the summer her second year. She had to be out of the dorm on Saturday of finals week. Trouble was, she was in Army Reserve and had to drill on Saturday and Sunday, so she couldn't leave Cincy till Sunday night. So I went down Friday morning and put all her stuff in my truck, and we moved into a hotel for the weekend. I took her to drill early each morning, but can't go back to the hotel, cause they try to clean the room. So I asked the desk clerk if there was a park I could go to. They looked at me like I asked for their checkbook or something. Why do you want a park, she says. I explaned, but she didn't even know where is a park in Cincy. At least no crook tried to get in my car. We get spoiled in Cleveland, our park system is really good. Even open in the winter, once they plow the snow off the roads. Paul |

Cleveland get choke same stuff, Kory. Shootz. Paul make da most ono pizza.
And of course, I have a cannoli story to tell. My best friend and I were going to make hommade cannoli. She had just bought a power machine for stuffing things like cannoli and making cookies you shoot out of the gun with the little discs that make hearts and trees and such. We both thought this machine would make it so easy and hassle free to stuff the cannoli. We made the dough. Wrapped it around the cannoli forms and fried the dought. While the shells were cooling, we made the filling. Tradition calls for either candied fruit or chocolate shavings or chips added to the sweetened ricotta cheese. We added chocolate chips which we chopped up first. The machine said not to put too big of chunks or the machine might not extrude the filling smoothly. We went to fill the dainty goodies and the machine would not shoot out the cheese for filling. She keps the power and pressure on and all of a sudden the motor whines and stalled and all of the cheese shot out of the back end of the gadget, spraying ricotta cheese all over us and the kitchen. And I don't even like cannoli. Another Lucy & Ethel moment. Turns out the chips clogged up the outlet and da buggah kept building up pressure.
Italian pastry in my experience, though, is dry, dry, dry, You gotta have plenty coffee or tea to eat Italian pastry.
For bagels, we get choke Jewish folks live ovaheah, so plenny opportunity for good bagels. Corky & Lenny's have great ones, and ono corned beef sandwiches and matzo ball soup. Or Slymans for the corned beef. Been on TV with Rachel Ray. The sandwiches are so big, cannot fit into even Joe E. Brown's open mouth. Now I am in a corned beef fantasy. Oh da ono. Oh da salty.
For pastry, I like Hungarian or German or Solvenian or Polish. Strudel, kolachky, stollen, paczky, Dobosh torte, etc. Darn, now I've done worked myself into a pastry fantasy.

My fave - "pain au chocolate", from France! Trader Joe's sells the pain au chocolate as "chocolate croissants". They're frozen, 4 to a pack. You just set them out overniget, they thaw and rise, and you stick em in da oven fo 15 min, then serve em wid french roast coffee. Yum! I love Croissants, too with butter. Also, for breakfast: slice baguette thin on diagonal, on each piece spread creme fraiche and place fresh rasperries on top. Also yum! |

Best pastry I ever had in my life: two places, actually. One is the French patisserie at France in Epcot. The other is at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas. I bought pastry there every morning (which the hotel comp'ed after I won the jackpot on a progressive slot machine on an investment of $2.25). That is first time I ever had pain au chocolate and it was mighty fine. The grocery store here sells them, but they are nothing like that which I had in Las Vegas.
Another favorite Vegas memory is smelling the Krispy Kreme donuts at one of the hotels there. Oh, my. Onaona.
