I remember Ricky Nelson and Elvis both had guitars that looked like they were covered in tooled leather. How could a guitar make music if covered in leather? Or was that just an optical illusion> |

That leather covered Martin Dreadnought was featured in a Martin ad in Acoustic Guitar a couple months ago. I guess it was the pickups that made it work, cuz, according to most theories of sound board design, it don't make much sense, and it sure ain't as pretty as most any tonewood. Aloha, Allen |

Neither of them were guitar gods - just strummers, more like pecussion, so sound didn't really matter. As I recall, Eelevis did it first, and Ricky copied him. |

When you watch the video, Ricky's just silently strumming, like his guitar's just a prop. James Burton's doing the real playing. Ric |

Oh my - those are great pictures, Bob! Oh, the scrapbook I could make with those pics. I love the drums sitting on the braided rug. A nice little piece of Americana. |

I started playing guitar in 1990. Here are a couple shots circa 1992/1993, rocking it out in Hartford, CT.

What, Andy? No can smile? Ah, but you are such a young thing. Gosh, to me 92-93 is recent history. Great pics. |

Usually a good idea to put the drum kit on a rug. I've seen 'em walk away from the drummer when he kicks the pedal. It sneaks a little further forward every kick, till he can't reach well. The guitarist feels like somebody's sneaking up on him."I saw that!"-Pete Townshend Unko Paul |

Andy's got that "ready to shred" look. Probably need a fan to cool down those fingers after each set. Ric |

Hey, that was cool! Reminds me of Herman's Hermits, sound-wise. Reminds me of "She's a Must to Avoid". Which one is you? |

John,
Good call. The bass was actually a Framus, same as Bill Wyman played (wish I still had it, but I do have the Hoefner). Yes, that was a small Ricky, same model that Lennon played. Lead guitarist had a Fender Jaguar. The lead singer was holding a Fender Mustang. We were a good band, but Lyndon Johnson had other plans. The drummer passed away a couple years ago. The lead guitar still plays bass with bands in Reno, although he he now plays bass (lost his high frequency hearing). The rhythm guitar player has a band out of Santa Cruz and is still cookin. The lead singer, who became the lead guitar for my band, Kalyan, when I got home from Viet Nam, ??????? And me, a bass player at heart, a slack key and mele hawai`i player. Whoda thunk it? I appreciate your comments. Throughout the years on TP, we have always been on the same page. Mahalo.
