I don't know how to write this, but I think its time that I try. On March 22, My wife, Sheila, was killed in a car accident on the I5 freeway near Camp Pendleton (near Oceanside, California). I was driving but my injuries were not severe.
I just returned from a trip to Kaua`i last night. I scattered her ashes on the beach near Waipouli. We would have celebrated our 38th anniversary this month. I just don't have the words to describe how I feel. I haven't been frequenting taropatch very much lately, but will return on a limited basis.
However, while I was on Kaua`i my good friend, Paul Togioka, took me to the Na Hoku Hanohano awards as his guest. I got to see a lot of friends that I haven't seen in a while.

I'm nearing 38 years of marriage, too, and I can only imagine how devastating your loss must be. Please know that you and your families have our deepest sympathy. |

Dusty - You have Paul and my deepest condolences. There are never the right words to soothe you and to give you comfort. Be happy for the time you had together. That makes it all the more precious. The hurt of having the one you love taken away under such circumstances is beyond anything I can imagine. Just know that you are sure to have the prayers and positive thoughts of the people here at Taro Patch.

Dusty,
Bev and I often talk about the beautiful, early morning music you and Sheila wafted into our hale at Kalani Honua. We also laugh about the look of embarrassment on Sheila's face seeing one big white haole in the curtainless shower. That naupaka just wasn't big enough.
God Bless you my friend,
Dave |

Dusty,
I wish there was something I could write to ease your pain. You and Sheila have always been so kind to me so the news of her passing touched me deeply. Please let me know if there is anything I or we at the 'patch can do for you. You are certainly in my thoughts and prayers. |

Dusty - I just read this news out loud to Momi, without mentioning Sheila by name. She immediately remembered her from your stories, and said "Sheila?!?" Clearly, while we never met you or Sheila, you have touched our lives.
While it will provide little relief to your pain, please know that all of us here carry a piece of your grief with us now. |

Dear Dusty,
George and Nancy Kahumoku, and all your friends at camp at Napili next week will celebrate Sheila's life by dedicating this workshop to her. We will toast both of you at sunset on the seawall. I still smile when I think about that time you two first came to George's camp, (or maybe it was my first time), and you walked up to me, sitting there on the seawall with my evening cocktail, with big grins on your faces. It took me a few moments to realize that we were not at Keola's camp, and what a surprise it was to see you at that moment. I think I might have let out a yelp...
I have many fond memories of Sheila and you. As I scrolled through my photos, I noticed that whenever you were in the picture, Sheila was not far away. That's what I will remember.
Thank you for being our friends and sharing your lives with us.

Dear Dusty,
This is profoundly saddening and my heart goes out to you. There are no words to express the loss of ones life's partner and soulmate. Please accept my deepest condolence and sympathy.
