I suppose this has happened to other members here but I got a surprize request last weekend. My mother-in-law asked if I would play (Penei No) at her funeral when she passes! She is not ill by the way. Anyway, I was stunned and honored all at the same time. Still in shock, I timidly agreed to do it, however, if I do outlive her, it will be one tough gig, let me tell you!

...when that time comes, you'll assume the role, and you will play from the heart. Its very special she thinks enough of you in that way, you should feel honored. You'll be fine, and you'll do fine, you'll see. Sounds like this will happen far, far into the future, I'm sure your Mother-in-law is quite healthy currently. She just wanted you to know. ~slkho |

We carry our kupuna in our hearts and memories. This, indeed, is a special request for the future. |

Quite a sign of the aloha you two share. You honor each other - she in asking, and you in agreeing. |

What an honor, indeed. And what a beautiful tune. |

My wife's grandmother just passed last week. The entire family is very musical, and they focused on their music in the funeral. This proved to be a wonderful way to express their emotions, and no one felt the need for tears at the time (after, of course, it was different).
Being able to express yourself through music is a blessing. Embrace the opportunity, and include as many family members as possible. |
