December 11 and 12, 2009 the Na‘alehu Theatre presents the fifth segment of the Island wide series He Huaka‘i e Pana na i ke ea (A Journey to bring pulse to the Living) and Ho‘ike A‘o Kanikapila. Ispired by George Na‘ope and directed by Slack-key Master Cyril Pahinui provides a two-day workshop in Slack-key Guitar, Ukulele, and Hula. Beginning with workshops at Onekahakaha Beach Park on Dec.11 and Mokuola (Coconut Island) on Dec. 12. Instruction is provided by award-winning musicians and kumu hula. Each instructor shares their unique style and feature music and mo‘olelo from the areas presented during site visitations.
Following the workshops, on Dec. 13, Ho‘ike A‘o Kanikapila a free concert will be held at the Wailoa State Park Pavilion. Workshop fees are $25 for adults and youth can attend at no charge.
