Aloha nui! Pehea mai nei?

I just wanted to tell you guys that I was on Moku O Keawe for the first time last week. It was amaaaaaaaaaaaaazing!

I had the honor of hearing Sonny Lim playing ki ho'alu and singing at the Canoe House one night. He is so talented! I asked him to do "Hi'ilawe" and he did. When he was taking a break, I told him that i thought he did it better than Gabby Pahinui.

Even though I stayed on the Kona side (sorry Hilo fans), I did have the chance to go to Kilauea and feel the mana of Pele. I almost jumped back when I first felt that steam on my face. Oh my God! Then after, we drove over to Akaka Falls, and it was totally worth it. Although I couldn't see the falls themselves, I could certainly hear them. Nani, nani, nani! I think going there has made me sing that song better now. :) I'm planning on putting a picture of me with the falls in the background on my facebook profile as my default profile picture and possibly here on taropatch as well. That reminds me: if some of you haven't added me as a facebook friend yet, do it please! Alex Krauth. Mahalo!

I also wanted to let you guys know that I have now officially met Kona Bob! I had no idea he was gonna be at jack's kanikapila on the Wednesday that I was there. They do one every Wednesday night in Kona. For those who were there, mahalo nui loa for including me and making me feel like part of your kanikapila 'ohana. I went to a second one on Friday of that week, and some of the musicians asked me if I knew "'Alika" when they heard that was my Hawaiian name. So I played and sang it, and they all played the chords with me. I don't know how long I held the note for, but long enough that I got lots of applause and cheers from the musicians and the audience. After we ended our session (with "Hawai'i Aloha," of course), it was unbelievable. Everybody was coming up to me and talking about how amazing they thought my voice was. Some of them even said that when I did "'Alika" I sounded just like Aunty Genoa. I will never, ever forget that.

Mahalo to Bob and anyone else on here who was at either of those kanikapila. Also mahalo to everybody on taropatch for letting me get to know about you and supporting me ever since I joined. I love you all.

Malama!

He kehau ho'oma'ema'e ke aloha.

`Alika - the best part of going Hawai`i is being able to sing and make music with our Taro Patch `ohana over there.

I am glad you felt the power of Pele. She is there whether you can see her or not. You can feel her presence through the warmth of the ground under you, the smell of the air around you and the feel of the wind blowing.
At Akaka Falls, you very well may feel the spray of the water on your face or your arms. I know for sure at Raibow Falls you can. How i wish you could "see" Nani Mau. It is an amazing garden, so beautiful with little geckos all over and mongooses darting here and there. Or if you could see the huge (and I mean bigger than anything I have ever seen) Norfolk Island pine tree in the front of the house at Parker Ranch. I have never seen a tree with such a large diameter trunk. And when those piecones fall on your head, it gonna knock you out. The Big Island is truly an amazing place. But gee, funny I say that about anywhere I go in those lovely and powerful islands.

Glad you had a good trip, glad you got to kanikapila and to talk to Sonny Lim, KonaBob, et al.

Me ke aloha
Malama pono,
Wanda

'Alika,
Jack and Janey and I have been ukulele friends for years. They are truly special people. I'm glad they made you feel welcome and at home. Jack and Janey and I were part of a very small ukulele group here in San Diego before it became large, they got married and moved to TBI (The Big Island). Now that initially small ukulele group has grown into two VERY LARGE ukulele groups in San Diego with VERY LARGE WEEKLY kanikapilas every Wednesday and Thursday night! They both have the talent and love to nurture others into sharing their wonderful talents and aloha.
E Malama Pono,

Hiki no! if I'm ever in San Diego, I'm going! Mahalo for the heads-up!
Does Kili (Keith Marzullo) participate in those as well?
