Sincere congratulations to you and Uncle on the anniversary, Wanda!

And mahalo for the great youtube links...especially this one. Robert is always such a treat...and to have Kealoha Kalama dancing hula, while his "backup singers" are Nina Keali`iwahamana and Joe Recca...wish I'd been there...:

Yep...that's Shawn.

But he's not playing steel. It's a Fender Startocaster, and he's playing it on his lap like Thumbs Carlyle (sp??) did with Roger Miller back in the '60's. Note that there's no steel in his left hand. He's doing all the lead work on the cut.

According to biographical info I have read about Shawn Ishimoto, he plays all his instruments on his lap.

I usually make my standard reply to statements like this by saying, "Yes..... 5 of the happiest years or your life".

But in your case, Auntie and Unko, I think it really was 37 of the happiest years of your life. Happy Anniversary.

Thank you for the kind wishes. We are going out to dinner at a fancy restaurant and I am going to make Paul dress up. That means clean aloha shirt and maybe black jeans or khakis. And I'll put my teeth in and put on make-up. We are going for the gusto on this one. Wee-ha!.

(Wait til you hear what I got him for a present, shhhh, he doesn't know anything yet). Tomorrow is the big day. (It's my shot day, too).

By time we get 50 years, I think I want Paul to have learned from you, Dukie, how for play Waiulu. You only get 13 years to teach him, better get started.

And I woke up today, sipping my cuppa tea while Paul is still asleep (its not 10:00 yet) and what did I see? An amazing sight -- three pairs of cardinals outside on the lawn flitting around each other getting twitterpated.

The anniversary present fairy brought Unko the Leonard Qwan Red Book. Now no excuse he can't play Opihi Moemoe for me.

The top ten reasons I can't play Opihi Moemoe are: 2 thumbs & 8 fingers, all of which are clumsy. Az why hahd.
