Looking forward to seeing lots of friends (oh, about 40,000 of 'em ) in a couple weeks.

No Galician band this year, but I am playing old time music on dulcimer & mando-banjo with Zygote Brothers on Sunday at around 3:00. On the Beer Garden Stage, 'natch.

It'll be the official Zygote Brothers Reunion Show---something like 20 years since we last performed as a band.

We're so old that the fiddle tunes we play were new when we learned 'em.....

I was surprised to see they did not schedule one--I'd asked to help organize one. Oh well, more time for beer and hiding from the crowds.

BTW: I like "Mr. Retro" so much more than just "Retro" -- sounds like a totally laid back super hero; into good vinyl, old Scotch, tweed jackets and bongo drums.

Come to think of it, that's pretty much Gregg...

Hmm...when I looked at the workshop pdf several weeks ago, it musta been the 2009 version...cuz you're right, where I previously saw a slack key workshop by Mark is now a workshop on "Harmony Singing"

Unless Mark is offering THAT workshop ;-)

Yes...he shows up in his avocado green jumpsuit...matches his kitchen decor...

Plus when you rile him up, he says "They call me MISTER Retro!"

In my case, it would be "Dis-Harmony Singing."

Sorta like Spinal Tap at Elvis' grave--parallel fourths and unison drones.

But then, I am a big fan of Gregorian chant.

Or should that be Retro-arian chant?

Momi says: more like denim jackets, Mountain Dew & synth percussion ... but the good vinyl part is right.

FWIW, I'm in the middle of Travis Elborough's history of the LP, "The Vinyl Countdown," at the moment.

El Bumpo Grande ---

For Sunday's shows, I'm playing bass with the 2nd hula halau; slipry1 is joining Mark Nelson; thumbstruck is teaming up with Kermet Apio.

All can say is "ditto, thumbs"! Also, in general, what a festival! The largest free folk festival in North America! 23 stages of all sorts of amateur and semo-pro folk musicians!

It was such an honor to be a part of that slack key showcase on sunday.
It was a truly varied and entertaining show.

Jack & I had a good set, and Jack played beautifully. That time with Alan's really paying off, my friend!

Kermet was outstanding--he's a very good slack key guitarist and a better singer. His little girl charmed everyone with her hula. And he also brought up another wonderful dancer--sorry, didn't catch her name. Kory displayed his usual jaw dropping dexterity.

KEALE (that's how he was billed) turned out to be Walter Keale, who I'd met on Moloka`i many years ago at one of his first gigs. He has that amazing Keale voice, and his set was great. He talked story in between verses, explaining what the song was about and bring everyone along into a wonderful world of aloha.

If you were there, you know. If you were one of the 150 people lined up to get in -- yep, it was standing room only -- hope you can get there early next year!

Kermet's other dancer was Kristi, his daughter's kumu hula.
