Where can a student find a steel guitar teacher in the Berkeley CA area. Someone asked me that and I don't know who, where or how to contact a good teacher. Mahalo...

It might be a good idea to post this on the Steel Guitar Forum which has players in the Bay area who could assist you.

I don't know of any Hawaiian steel instructors in the Bay area, but if you contact Patrick Landeza, who lives there and is a really good slack key guy, he would know for sure. There are several good pedal steel teachers there, and maybe Bobby Black, who plays wonderful non-pedal country and Western Swing steel, could teach you, if he's giving lessons. There are important things to learn that are independent of style - how to hold the bar, where the "sweet spot" is on your steel's fretboard, how to fit your picks to your fingers, etc. Now, if you want to come up to Seattle.................
