I have been thinking about all the great live Hawaiian Music concerts that we have been to over the years and I thought about some of the great artists that we have seen that have never done their own CD. Some of these people may have recorded ON CDs....but just not their own.

Who are some of the people or groups that you have seen perform live, and even on youtube, that you think would be able to come up with a worthy cd?

One person that I'd like to hear would be Ioane Burns. Very well known as Hoku Zuttermeister's side man. We were so impressed with him every time we had the opportunity to see him perform. I think he would put out a great CD. Maybe he could get Hoku to be his backup vocalist in return.

Until 2007, Hōkū fit the description too. I'd like to see an album from Ioane. How about Chino Montero (solo CD)?

Absolutely right on both counts. A solo Cd by Chino is waaaaaay overdue!!

Agreed. The last time I asked him about it, he said every time he gets going on it, someone asks him to head out on the road with them, so he puts it aside again.

Oh, the pains of being so damn good!

I think Ke Kani Nahe needs to make a CD. I'd listen to it all day and all night and in the car and never stop listening. In case you might not know who they are (I really do not know how that could be possible).....

Ke Kani Nahe is Duke Domingo - Vocals, ki ho`alu & `ukulele; Derek Ho`okani Higa, 12-string guitar & vocals; Shawn Machida, lead guitar, `ukulele and probably anything with strings on it; and Sam Sang, `ukulele, bass and vocals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9UTwdJhHSc

Another great musician, singer and all 'round swell guy is that CUTE Ocean Kaowili - guitar, bass, amazing vocals. What more can words say? Well, actually, words can say a lot, but if you got me started.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zd7ZYsKG-IE

And there is Analu Aina. Oh don't be fooled -- he can play much more than bass. And he, too, is a fine gentleman. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zd7ZYsKG-IE

I'd also like to hear Terry Brown on CD. He plays amazing `ukulele and shares his heart by teaching so many young people. He produces phenomenal haumana but don't forget that they get that talent in part because Terry shares his mana`o. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z32MKNeS6_I

There are great musicians up here in the upper lefthand corner, also.

Kevin Brown, hands down.

He is the soul of generosity and among the best musicians I know, yet probably the most under rated and under represented singer in Hawaii.

The Waiehu Sons LP shows up once in awhile on ebay, and a few lucky souls might have the Three Generations CD that came out under his son Ikaika's name. Both are fantastic, IMHO, but sadly very hard to come by.

Kevin will do anything to help out a friend, as his many friends know. So now maybe his friends here on Taropatch can let him know how many of us will buy a CD from him?

Yeah Kevin, I'm going to shame ya into making that recording we've talked about for years. Should I bring my mics & remote rig over to Maui soon?

I'm late here. Kevin Brown and Chino Montero. I'd buy anything Kevin does. Chino does get his chops on Amy's Slack Key CD, though. I'd really like to see Moon Kauakahi do a solo of just his tunes. I love the Makaha Sons harmonies, but Moon has 40 years of stuff in there and is a great singer and guitarist. Perhaps Dwight Kenai - loved his stuff on the old 3D Cd with Del Beazley and David Kahiapo

I would very much like to hear a CD by Jeff Au Hoy.

The Abrigo Ohana....Emily turn 12 years old the day before this video was shot. Timi turned 15 the month before and had started playing the steel guitar about 8 months prior to this. Quinn was 7.......Pili who is tryng to keep up with Emily on vocals used to play with Na Palapalai before they got famous

Ramon Camarillo who once was a member of the East Coast Hawaiian band the Aloha Boyz. And or the Kainalu Serenaders that includes Auntie Lei Aken (Led's sistah) and Jesse Gregorio on bass(Ramon's brother)........Ramon plays the best rendition of Pua Lilia out there bar none.

Then of course there's young Peter Moon..........most have only seen the tip of the iceberg. I've had many opportunities to see him jam with Ozzie and chicken skin is an understatement.

Hoof Hearted?...Was it you Stu Pedaso?

Actually, Wanda, you'd be surprised how little it can cost. With any decent computer rig and a couple of mics–or even a flash recorder like the Zoom H4n–the recording can happen anywhere. Engineering, editing & mastering is just time, and I'd donate that to Kevin in a heartbeat.

And I'd bet half a dozen other folks here would, too.

So, no money there...

Graphics? Ditto a donation. I've got templates all set up already. Again, so do lots of other folks.

As for duplication, that is the biggest bugaboo. However, thanks to short run and on-line on-demand duplication from places like CDBaby and CreateSpace, it is even possible to do this for very little dough.

My last CD, "Pretty Little Dog," was done for the Zygote Brothers reunion gig. Up front, out of pocket cost on my end? Zip. As in Zero... nothing, nada. I ordered maybe 50 CDs at under five bucks a pop, sold 15 and gave the rest away.

Net profit? I think I lost a couple bucks and yes, it took some time. But what's time to a little pig?

I have no financial connection to CD Bay or Create Space---and there are other online on demand CD outfits.

I'm telling ya, it is a wonderful new world for musicians these days. There is absolutely no reason that someone who wants to release a CD cannot do it.

And lets not forget you can forego the whole physical CD thing and just release an album online!

Might be an interesting topic for discussion...
