FYI, Manuwai has been a teacher for the Molokaʻi High School Hawaiian Immersion Program and an instructor in the UH Hawaiian Studies program. I am not a student of his but know many in NYC who are studying with him.
I find it to be an interesting editorial. It would be in agreement with those who hope that cultural tourism will grow. I would say that it is about money and opportunity. If studying Hawaiian opened more job opportunities, there would be more people studying it.
Of course, there continue to be many, many people who just hit the beaches of Waikīkī who never care to know anything more or different. |

It would be really helpful if they would pronounce the words / place names correctly at the airport - the average visitor's first exposure to Hawaiian language! |
