I had the pleasure of seeing Keola play last night in Fort Lauderdale. What a great show. He and his wife really are a treasure. |

I attended John Keawe's concert & DVD showing. Chris Yeaton also played several songs with John. EXCELLENT! I also want to say Hope's dancing was wonderful. I bought the DVD. You can very nearly learn Hope's hula (if you know some hula) from the DVD (some parts are missing due to camera panning). Nice shots of John playing-- |

Hey Molly! Guess what, Keola, Moana, John, Chris and Donley are going to be in my neck of the woods on Jan. 29th. I'm pretty jazzed about hearing them play, but as I'm ground transportation for them as well, I'll get to visit with them for the whole day! Lucky me!
Last time I saw you were we at that bar/restaurant in Kona, no? That's been too long ago. My, but that was fun...
Aloha, Julie

So I wonder how the kick off show went last night? I fear that tonight's show may not happen with the Blizzard warning that we have right now, 12-14 inches of snow expected with 10 degree temps. Last night was 5 degrees!
These days, I always have to factor in a bit of hype in to the forecast but I fear that this time, it may be the real thing. |

Hi Bob,
Yes, John got snow and freezing weather. It seems that Hawaiian music is often scheduled during the winter to "warm" the east coast audience with aloha but it's uncanny that whenever musicians come out we get record low temps. This time our first significant snow fall of the season.
It's too bad that we (NJ/PA) missed the opportunity to catch this show which was already cancelled by 1pm. I did speak to Chris and Keola today by phone so we got to get caught up a little bit. The show is off to Virginia and I'm sure it'll be great. |

Oh Andy! I'm so sorry! I didn't think you were really serious about missing it! Maybe you could invite them in the summertime, or even in the fall? See you in 2 weeks!! Promise: no snow!!! |

Waaaaahhhhhh!!!! A promoter's nightmare, a musician's disappointment, a listener's vanished dream. Oh, I'm so sad to hear that concert was cancelled. We have fear of a similar thing happening here in CA, not because it might be snowy and icy here, but it might be bad in Minneapolis, from whence our friends flyeth. OK, so all of you who missed out, it's not too late to get your tickets for the Felton Show!
And for those of you musicians who don't spend a lot of time in snow country, three little words: Silk thermal underwear! The stuff is grand, very thin, very warm, can be worn under your regular clothing. Very luxurious and comfortable and reasonably priced to boot! Check out Lands' End and Wintersilks. (.com)
Take it from me, I just got out of 12 feet of snow on the slopes of one Lake Tahoe's ski resorts. I never leave home without my silkies, sometimes I wear them to my office when the heater malfunctions. I sometimes even wear them under my Hawaiian dresses!
Keep warm, Julie |

Julie, you're scaring me here...
On the other side of the coin, Fran Guidry and his wife met us at the outdoor Reef Lounge of the Haupuna Prince last night, and the four of us got front row seats to Darlene Ahuna and a very graceful hula dancer. The trade winds had stalled out and she kept dabbing at her forehead and joking that she wished someone would turn on the air conditioning, so I told her what John Keawe was having to deal with.
I showed your post to Shirley, and now she is busy on Land's End... Aloha, -Konabob
