I notice that there is an important omission in a couple of the listings. Patrick Landeza, is an outstanding musician and performer heads the two day Hawaiian Music Institute at Whittier College on January 16, 2005. He is an integeral part, and titular leader of The New Generation, which will be in concert at the Ruth B Shannon Performing Arts Center that night.

The listing should be

Patrick Landeza
Dennis and David Kamakahi
Keoki Kahumoku
Herb Ohta Jr
1/16/2005 - Shannon Center - Whittier CA

On May 5th 2005 Patrick Landeza and Cyril Pahinui will perform at Kent State University.

Patrick Landeza
Cyril Pahinui
5/5/2005 - Kent Stage - Kent Ohio

Patrick will be releasing a new CD in 2005 and I guarantee it will become a must have for all who love hawaiian music. Auntie Maria this without question will be your best seller for years to come so I hope you lay in a good stock. I'll order 5 right now if you want to start a list

Additional info on that Kent State University show is available at Ohio: Cyril Pahinui & Patrick Landeza 5/5/2005

Don't think I have additional info on the 1/16/2005 - Shannon Center - Whittier CA show but it's in conjunction with the Pacific NW & SoCal Hawaiian Music Institutes.

On Saturday, Lynette and I drove down to Stockton Performing Arts Center in Pomona, NJ. Big mahalos to Keola, Moana, and R. Carlos Nakai. Bonus to see Donley Smith (who is now sporting his new Taropatch.net button.)

Interesting theater. The seats are steep with the stage set below the seating area. Looking up at the crowd, Keola joked, "Get a sore neck playing this place." The show featured a set of Keola and Moana, followed by 3 songs of solo Nakai. After a 20 minute intermission, all three came out to showcase the efforts of their collaborative work. See http://www.canyonrecords.com for more info.

As Keola and Moana have been known to do, the program was not only about the music but visually impactful too. Moana's dance, chanting, backup vocals and use of other props results in a really polished performance.

The combined works of Keola and RC produced some really spiritual and etheral music. With many parallels between the Native American and Hawaiian experiences, the joint effort focused on the positives. RC's intuitive flute playing complimented Keola's guitar well. The show was very well received evidenced by long line at the CD table. Overall, an enjoyable cultural experience and great to see some ol' friends.
