Thanks for the link about "Mr Sun Cho Lee", Reid.
The two versions I know of that song are by the Beamer Brothers and, more recently, Pure Heart. Bob Magoon also wrote the Hawaiian "12 Days of Christmas" and Pure Heart recorded that, too.
E komo mai, Kiwini!

I thought Frank DeLima was part Filipino....hmmmm. What about Mel Cabang? He makes good fun of Hawaiians all day long.
As for Portagees in Honolulu, they're not a funny bunch. That's why they're all cops! I met a Portagee Hawaiian cop who was visiting here in Idaho and his son is a cop here in my town. Yowza, can't get away from them! (Actually I mentioned I was hapa and he gave me a bunch of cool souvenirs, pins, pens, buttons and stuff. Then he showed me how to shaka with two hands.)
You should check out song "I'm a Filipino" by 3 Local Boys. Very funny.

Hey Karl,

Thank you again for the wonderful award. Please relay to your Academy staff that I appreciate all the hard work that went into this award and that their checks are in the mail.

Yes, my computer is multi-lingual. I am lucky, however, that it doesn’t understand French.

Apparently you read the Lyrics. Lychee is a Chinese word for Lyrics.

Actually, lychee is a succulent Chinese fruit that a Pake man brought over from his homeland of China, to give to his new Haole girlfriend that worked in a bar serving drinks, while wearing long rooster feathers out the back of her uniform.

Fo mo information forrow dis rink,

http://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/morton/lychee.html

You might find canned lychees in the Asian section of you local supermarket. It is one of my favorites fruits having grown up with a large lychee tree in our front yard. It has a unique tropical flavor with the texture of a slippery grape. If you can’t find any up your way let me know and I fly some up your way. They are really good frozen!

Pake is a slang term used to identify a person of Chinese heritage.
Much like Buk Buk, Pinoy, and Flip is used to describe me.

That is your cultural lesson for today.

Aloha No,

Kiwini

Steve

And leichee can be found dried, much like raisins in the vegie sections of markets at times,(Ralphs etc) and very occasionally, the fresh fruit is available. At north pole? You want me to send a can? They are yummy and used to be served over crushed ice for after dinner, and those of you who know shin yen dofu (white almond-flavored jello) may have had them mixed that way.
No no! No talk food!! I'm supposed to be losing weight before Camp (and after camp).

If you're a Pinoy, you like lychee in your halo-halo! (along with garbanzo beans, pinipig and sweetened condensed milk)

Thanks for the link to lychee. I now have more info than i will ever need (except how it actually tastes) about this oriental fruit. Say, happen to have a web site for that cocktail waitress?
Rooster feathers, eh?
I'll look for the lychee at the asian food market here in town....yes, Auntie Nancy, we do have an asian food market. Not in North Pole, but in Fairbanks. North Pole, though, is turning into the same bland place all the rest of you live in. We have (this is a town of 1600 people, 15 miles from Fairbanks) a Taco Bell, Subway, MaDonalds, Pizza Hut, a Chinese restaurant (very good), a really great thai resturant, two family eateries, a Wendys, 2 mexican restaurants and at least 4 coffee carts. The only thing we don't have yet is used or new car lots. But, then everybody makes up for that by keeping every vehicle they have ever owned in their front yards until the return to the earth. Sort of like Appalachia with snow and cold. So, what did i just say.....North Pole is a dump. If you ever travel up here, bypass this little burg.
Alos, for you who cannot travel witthout a supply of lychee, i will post later as to whether any can be found in this area at all. That just might make or break the deal for some travelers.

Eh Uncle Karl,
You aren't real until you do like Maui.... I couldn't believe what I saw there! CostCo - all the fast food guys, Borders books and something we don't have here yet, a WalMart!
That's a lot of food for a berg of 1600. You have lots of tourists going to ski? or fish?
By the way, lychee makes a delectable sweet sour dish for those few of us who can't eat pineapple! Yummy!!!
