Auntie and Kiwini,
(Say, what's a Kiwini, anyway)
Finally got into that can of lychee. My (our) impression was not the gretest, but then we haven't eaten anything from a can in years. I'd like to try the real thing, fresh, before i passs final judgement. I am sure it would make no difference to you guys, because from teh sund of it, you love the stuff, and that is all that matters.

I am trying to get registered for bith George K. workshops on May 7. I plan to fly in Friday morning early, and hope to meet some Tpers that evening, go to the workshops in LA and SD the next day. Hopefully that night meet and play with other TPers, then head to wherever the next music deal is on Sunday before i return to Alaska Sunday evening. Anybody know of anything going on Friday or Saturday night or Sunday day? A jam would be OK, but I would really like to sit and really learn stuff rrom a few of you experts down there.

I might still hold out for one of Patrick's workshops in August, but have not yet ehard the dates. Anybody know?

Karl

Uncle Karl, As we say in da islands, so long as you try. If you keep tryin stuffs, one day you gonna find someting you like. Next ting you know, its off to Hawaii wit da family an your bank account. Im glad you tried though.

BTW, to satisfy your curiosity, Kiwini, pronounced Kivini, is my name, Steve, in Hawaiian.

I haven't any answers regarding your other questions, but I'll bet Auntie will know.

Aloha Auntie,

I'm just sitting down wit da computah. Da concert was tahriffic, just toooo good! Da music, da singin, da jokin, all Hawaiian style. Besides da music, it was great to watch one proud foddah watching his children performing so beautifully. You try watch! Dey even was so kind to have signed my Kika! Have fun!

BTW, met Dave, Fran, Lawrence, BWOP, Gary and Paul. (Not sure if Paul is TPer or not!) Mahalo to you guys for da warm reception. I didn't see Mike but he probably went to the show in Felton.

Was good fun, hope you have as much fun as I!

Me Ke Aloha,
Steve

Aloha Uncle Karl -
Hope you chilled the can before trying the lychee. Maybe it's an acquired taste - I first had it when i was very young. I didn't like the dried ones though, and I've nver had it fresh.
Do you like Saimin soup? there is a place over by doug's shop where we can listen to music on Friday afternoon and also on Sunday. I'm not sure who we can pull in on Friday but we can try - it's a nasty drive to or from San Diego on a Friday night. On the other hand, doug and Uncle Richard (no computer) and a few others might be available - also, can go by to see Jay and Doug at hana (work). Maybe John would be around the shop (too busy to use computer, but leaving Sunday for Maui)
There's a show down south the Saturday night so catch it there. the one here is Sunday night. If the weather's good and you and I are really lucky, we might fly out somewhere for breakfast. Have you seen this area by air?
there is also local music on sunday that Rik caught up here.
I think you'd enjoy the music of the few folks I've mentioned. When you have your trip put together, and if it's here, we might get SoCalHaole, Nick the Pilot, to come over... he flies Mon - Fri nights so he won't be here then until later in the weekend. And he's just learning ki ho'alu, but he knows and sings well, tons of Hawaiian songs, and plays a mean ukulele! I wonder if we could get Kiwini to come down that weekend?? It's about a 5hr drive if he puts peddal to da' metal...
gosh, come down more than once!!
We won't feed you out of a can.......

It was nice to meet you too. Thanks for driving all the way from Gilroy. For all of you who haven't met this guy, in person his pidgin sounds like nornal Gilroy mainland. Yeah, I think one of the things I like the most about `Ohana Brown is watching Kevin's hugh smile as he watches his children.

Bruddah,
Do you know how haahd it was fo me to talk American pidgin all night?
I'm bi-lingual with english as a second language.

Dave it was my pleasure to be there, I wouldn't have missed it for the world. All who see Ohana Brown are in for a very special experience of true Hawaiian Aloha spirit. And WOW! What beautiful guitars! To those reading in: Dave provided them two beautiful guitars. One was a really nice Taylor and the other one a gorgeous 1998 Goodall Royal Hawaiian Guitar, all koa. Good job Dave, but I never saw the bus!

Me Ke Aloha,
Steve

Aloha!
I am so very excited about tomorrow night!! Tonight is a big concert with Eddie Kamae which should also be very good.
Did Kevin bring the guitar that had belonged to his Father-in-law? He said he might try, but my guess is that he already had too much luggage...
I wonder if Keith's lost him computer access.....
Thanks for all your updates guys - really a treasure.
Kiwini, if the girls can learn mainland English, so can you.....
Mahalo to all

Hey Steve

Thanks for the greeting in response to my intro posting. Over here on page 5 it is obvious that you are a hard act to follow! I enjoyed reading through the thread. I'm not so good at pidgin, but I sure do love the flavor it gives to the site. A lot of my neighbors speak an interesting version of english, but it's not as much fun.

If you ever make up this way (and there is lots of outdoor stuff to do up here), bring your instruments and we'll do some playing.

Aloha Kiwini!!
I fed Karl and the rest of the crowd last night shin yen do'fu.... apparently Karl's version of lychee bought in alaska is not as tasty as that available here. Also, recipe for do'fu - almond jello: soften 2T gelatin in 1/4 C water. Boil two cups water, thoroughly dissolve gelatin, then add 1/3 C sugar. When dissolved, add 2 T almond extract and 2 C milk. TASTE - if you like it, refrigerate until set. If not, add more flavoring or sugar. for those of you who are really familiar with it - you would use an extra 1/4 to 1/2C of each of the liquids, but it's easier to handle thickened a bit more. Traditionally, this is served cut into cubes and folded into chilled canned fruit cocktail. I'm not much of a fan of that, but then used canned madarin oranges and now use lychee - peaches might be good too.... snd my mother hated the stuff, so it's not everyone's favorite - wish you were here to enjoy it and the music -
