Aloha, is there an open mic this first Wednesday of September? I can't seem to find any recent posts on it.
So if there is, does anyone (RJS?)know how much time we have and what we should prepare for? I remember a PA sytem, but can't recall if the instruments are amplified or not. I do remember that it was a lot of fun, and that there was a great diversity of styles. Looking forward to some more of that...
Mahalo nui, Julie

Here's Raymond's post about the open mic on Sept 7th. http://www.taropatch.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3144
I'll let Raymond respond to your other questions. In general it's pretty loose and you can play for as little or as long as you want within reason. You can plug in if your instrument has a pickup. |

Prepare what you like -- as long as it somehow relates to "Hawaiian music." - amount of time depends on number of performers persent -- sign up is at 7:00 PM, first act goes on at 7:15. -- if there a "full list" - 9 performers at 15 minutes each - typically count about 3 songs and 1 "hana hou." -- of course you can perform just 1 piece if you like. if less than 9 performers, we divide time evenly. mics are available, so is plug in for your pick ups.
Any other questions?
Hope to see you, as well as other TP'ers |

We've been doing this on a monthly basis since May. Ongoing events are somewhat dependent on attendance, but it looks like we are OK through Dec. (unless the attendance crashes like last month.) Hope to see you and, please, share your music with us. |

I can put it out at the Sept. open mic to see if anyone can bring a steel for you to play. Anything specific for me to ask for? |

Thanks Raymond! I usually play a Weisenborn-style guitar, but any guitar with a nut extender would do. I can even bring my own nut extender if it comes down to it! Mahalo for your kokua!

If no one has a Weisenborn-style, I have an old "box neck" style and a Washburn that I can fit with a nut extender. So... hope not only to see you, but also to hear you play. |

Konabob - I've got a cheap, square neck resonator you can use. I'll send you an email about playing some tunes.
Last night was a fun show. I missed Cynthia, Lawrence and Joe (sorry), but the rest of the show was beautifully hawaiian. I was in awe of some of the songs that Kiwini, Gary A and Raymond chose to play; difficult pieces, but they all pulled them off. Thanks again Ray and Cafe Espresso for giving us this opportunity.
WOW!!!!!!

Yes - the energy was good for last nites Open Mic. Lot'sa good stuff was emanated into the ether.
Bob,
You are welcome to sit in with us (Na La'au Ki'eki'e) for a few numbers too. I look forward to having a steel join our guitar and uke(s) and vocals.
I will also send you a play list for possibilities like Ilio is doing.
You may end up being a busy guy!!

I'm sorry I missed the Open Mic last night...the best laid plans... Sounds like it was great. I will try my hardest to make the open mic in October. KonaBob....If I do come, I can bring my Superior. I don't know how to play it, but I will learn some day. |

Thanks Dave, it was great to reconnect and to hear everybody play. I really enjoyed your original pieces especially the one about being Hawaiian at heart. Very moving. Thanks for the encouragement. |
