Fran, I might have been the only one who heard the " Coconut Wireless" on the radio. I managed to catch the last half hour after I got off work, you sounded so sweet bruddah, especially Slack- Key Lullaby ! Thanks for helping J.J aka K.K. celebrate his 18th year on the airwaves, as well as helping KMUD!
KMUD is truly a shoestring operation, their existence relies entirely on donations from listeners and generous local business underwriters. Like KZYX in Mendocino County, which has allowed me to host a Hawaiian show since November 2005, KMUD is listener supported community radio.
Since moving to the North Coast from the Bay Area in 2000, I've come to realize how important stations like KMUD and KZYX are to the people of Humboldt and Mendocino County. Like K.K. and myself, most of the programmers on these stations are volunteers whose love for the music and culture of the music they are playing are the reason they volunteer their time and energy to host these shows.
With the exception of the friday morning Hawaiian show on KKUP in Santa Clara, Hawaiian Music was not to be found on the airwaves in the 11 years I lived in the Bay Area. As a member of both stations, I feel so fortunate to live in an area where I can hear such diverse programming as that played by the programmers on KMUD and KZYX.

Regarding broadcast budgets: I believe K.K. said he and J.J. have been total volunteers for these past 18 years.
Andy, K.K. also asked Fran, "What is Taropatch.net?", giving Fran the perfect opening to give a great plug for TP.
BTW, I was amused when I thought I heard K.K. refer to himself as "Kanaka Kapakahi"
aloha, Sarah
