Howzit Dave,
I'm planning to come. In case I get stuck in traffic, please save a spot for me. All it takes is one accident and 680 becomes a log jam.
Mahalo,

Agree that it was a great night of performances and also spectators last night highlighted with the return of a couple of old friends that we hadn't seen for a while, Raymond Stovich and Kiwini. The recently added stage, as a result of the ongoing remodeling of the coffee shop, helped with the visuals as we were able to see the performers' playing techniques. Good stuff... |

It was really great to see and hear how well everyone is playing. What an incredible pool of talent. And really wonderful people. And . . . I was completely blown away by Doug's Moe Uehana. Doug added a beautifull improvised section - quite long, wonderfully thought out, fit the song like a glove in hand, and just plain gorgeous. IMO people who left early missed the highlight of the evening. |

Had a great time listening and performing. Strobe effect when fans turned on didn't seem as bad. Was it being up on the stage or maybe we are use to it. Looking forward to next month work schedule permitting. And thanks Doug for talking the Tril into coming. He may have regretted it, cause baseball score didn't favor the locals. I was expecting him, but would have been ready to solo. Aloha nui, Genaro |

This open mic was a nerve racking but really good learning experience for me. I was the last guy to sign up, so guess who got to be the finale? Usually I try to go up early (3rd or 4th spot), so I won’t have to follow too many of the talented performers. Well, Tuesday night not only had a full slate of performers, but most of them were real pros--folks who have regular restaurant and halau gigs, performed at the Aloha and ukulele festivals, and opened up for and played with the likes of John Keawe, Led Kaapana, and Darlene Ahuna. For perspective, my claim to fame is performing with my son for his first grade class. Anyhow, I survived the experience and I’m a stronger man for it!
Raymond, it was great to see you after your long hiatus and mahalo for your gracious comments. That was the first time I played “Moe ‘Uhane” outside of my living room. I really tried to stay within the structure and sentiment of the song (dream slack key) yet make it my own, as our kumu encourage us to do. And, as Ozzie says, “Make us proud we’re your teachers.”
Genaro, yeah, Sil was reluctant to come, but I told him I was going to stop by his house anyway on the way down. When I got there, he looked like he just woke up. Karen even gave him hard time for not dressing nicely for the occasion. Gotta love it. I’m so glad he and Art came, since it was a year ago almost to the day that I met these bruddahs via Taropatch. I’ve learned so much this past year by hanging out with them. I was thrilled to be able to call them up to join me on my last song, “Island Style”--unrehearsed of course. What an honor to share the stage with them.
Dave, mahalo for organizing the open mic every month and setting up/taking down the equipment. I love the remodeled room and the large stage. What a nice venue for us to be able to play. Oh, and a reminder to everyone, it’s probably not too early to start practicing the Christmas/holiday songs.
Aloha,
Doug
