When you show up at a Borders Bookstore concert and John Keawe and you are wearing the same Aloha Shirt (true story) |

This may be a repeat:

When you are sick with the flu (which I am) and you can't walk by your guitar without picking it up and playing a few licks (which I just did). I must be crazy! |
What? You mean high "E" is the TOP string. No way dude! That changes everything! |

Ho da funny, Podagee. Paul was in the hospital after surgery on his knee and I took his dulcimer to him so he could have an instrument to play. Instead of the guitar, which we thought would be too noisy for the hospital environs, the small mountain dulcimer was much more quiet. He uses dulcimer for songs that sound good on ukulele. And...his physical therapist was from Phillipines. Paul was playing isa Lei and the therapist was amazed by the music. He wanted to know about the music and where he could get it. Now keep in mind that Cleveland, OH does not have any serious retail outlet for da kine music, but Paul suggested various ki ho`alu players to him, and he went to Borders and bought some Keola Beamer music. That is also when you know you are one slacker...you proselytize and share da kine and spread da word...because you want others to know about this wonderful, magical music. That's the true "slacker"...the sharing.
Feel better soon, Podagee. |

......when the first ninety-seven songs on your iTunes playlist start with an (`) Okina; and further down the list there are a hundred more with an incorrect (') apostrophe --you are slightly offended, but no worries. |

If when jamming, Aunty comes over and asks, "Wheah are you boys from back home?", even though we're all haoles from the mainland. (Near this point, Slipry1 got the compliment, "Sounds just like my backyard in Hilo, 1949")

Wanda, same thing happened to Jay out here. He was using his guitar for left hand therapy and the nurse asked him to play in the hall so that others could hear him. Music is communication, not product. |

...a bruddah hears you playing/singing and asks, "Eh, you local boy?" ...You could go anywhere for vacation but you keep going to the same place and doing the same thing. ...You play slack key in a public place and hear a collective sigh from the people around you. ...all your non-Hawaiian CDs and LPs are lost somewhere in the basement or attic and you just don't care. ...you have to dig through all your clothes at the airport to find the metal fingerpicks that keep setting off the metal detector. ...Get up at four a.m. and drive five hours or more just to get to a slack key jam (done this three times) and home again the same day. (done this once) Jesse |

When you hear a bell, you think of your guitar, instead of church, or christmas. "Jus Press" doesn't mean laundry. |

...if you know a haole mainland guy who can play slack key lick-for-lick with Ledward Kaapana but does not do it during October because he is busy playing button accordion in an oompah band. (Thumbstruck)
