Fellow Taropatcher (and in full disclosure, my friend and former New York playing partner), Darin Leong has just released his CD project titled "Five Years and Many Miles." This all instrumental album is a blend of Darin's Hawaiian slack key, folk, fingerstyle and classical influences. It's a real nice follow up that builds upon his first CD "When Home Is Far Away."

So amongst the 13 new compositions, what's new? `Ukulele has been added as a featured instrument. Aloha Papalua is a track co-written by and performed with yours truly -- so good reviews only! Just kidding. 5 tracks feature bass and other instruments by Hawaii's monster musician and half of Hapa Nathan Aweau. There are also two tracks with steel guitarist Trever Asam.

Thanks Wanda. I thought recording was a lot of work, but I'm realizing that all the work really starts after the recording is finished!

Hi Blaine,

Thanks for the kind words. The cd just came out in stores on Tuesday, my first distribution deal with Mountain Apple! I'm at Michel's restaurant from 6:30 - 9:30 on September 27, October 7, 11 and 14. Feel free to stop by and say hello!

Bruddah Darin, terrific sounding CD! Must have been quite an experience working with Nathan Aweau - such a humble person and awesome musician on so many instruments. Seems like you're on a roll now...

Wow gig at Michel's. High class.

Local boy, French food, no can pronounce nothing on the menu so I guess gotta just point at the menu or eat French toast and French fries. Cannot even order by the number because the only numbers on the menu is the price. Wait, the place so high class I be they no even put the price on the menu yeah?

Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can arrange something.. Sure the wifey won't mind dinner there. First, I gotta go find a coat that fits. The ones I own seem to have "shrank".

Art, thanks for the kind words. It was really exciting seeing the cd in Long's Drugs Store today for the first time. :)

Blaine, Michel's has a bar too, so another option is to grab drinks at the bar. Sunset is really nice over there.

Thanks Bill! I appreciate the support. Truth be told, first week sales have indicated how difficult it is to release an album in Hawaii, but I'm still trying. Every little bit helps!

I think you need airplay on the lekio. My experience is the DJ's have their favorites and they rarely promote new artists very easily. Honolulu radio sometimes gets boring that way. I would hear stuff on the outer islands that were never ever played in Honolulu. So the not so great gets more air time and subsequent sales rather than the real good musician bringing fresh sounds to the people.
