Las Vegas is good for several reasons. You can fly here on low fare airlines cheap. There are places to stay that don't cost a fortune if you book far enough in advance. Some of the Station Casinos have a $40.00 per night deal. There are a lot of things to see and do besides gambeling that other members like spouses that don't play are want something else to do can do.

We are loaded with Hawaiin musicians that no longer perform publicly and a ton of Hawaiian people that are just talented as all get out.

I have looked at putting a gathering together for 3 or 4 days and it can be done for about $900.00 a person. ( Air fare, hotel, meals and registration) I have also looked into taking a cruise ship on a three day and its about the same price.

No matter where you go its going to cost and to organize and have a central place to meet with breakout rooms and professionals in attendance its not going to happen for much less than the above. The Hawaiian camps are fine but I believe they are more costly than what can be done on the mainland. We can do everything they do here just won't have the ambiance.

It can be planned around Hawaiian events that do occur here Like this month on the 14th and 15th we have Ho' Oleu Lea which draws about 7,000 people, The Hawaiian Civic Club has the Hawaiian Isle Festival and Canoe races at Lake Las Vegas, on 10/20 and 10/21. Pure Aloha 10/13 10/14 has attendence of several thousand about 50 vendors live entertainment all day long for $5.00 and name artist in concert in the evening. C and K are playing at Sam's Town on 9/14

So if you want to have a gathering you can There is no way to please everyone as to location or price. There needs to be at least 30 registered attendees to make it happen sucessfully. Someone is always going to complain about price and or location and there personal problem with it. Sorry, but that does not get things done. It takes people thinking positively and see how to make it happen rather than negatively about why it can't. Some have their own commercial venture to push and thats fine but the money can be made on the mainland just as well as elsewhere. You don't like Las Vegas I don't like some other part of the country So What Its a choice to attend or not. But there will be no choice to consider if something is not planned. At least someone should try and plan someting in detail before it starts getting kicked apart by folks that probably wouldn't attend a gathering anyway.

If its wanted in this area I can certainly help but as some of you already know I cannot take the task on due to health issues and present commitments.

Don - As I said, after October 2 when I retire, I will be able to work the issues you have spoken of. I like the idea of Nevada. Most places can get a direct flight there, no changing of planes. You are right about relatively cost effective air fare and lodging accommodations. As as one who has personally experienced your aloha and that of many of Hawaiian ex-pats now living in that neck of the woods, I full well know what a great experience it could be.

If anyone is seriously interested in the probability, please write me personnally and let me know. If we do get sufficient interest as Don said above (minimum 30 folks), then I will try to put it together with Don's advice and expertise.

Please let me know if you are interested.
