Aloha, I just signed up on Taropatch. I was born and raised in Manoa Valley and moved up to Eugene to attend the UO in 1975. I've been playing guitar for a long time, but I am just starting to learn slack-key. While growing up in Honolulu, my friends and I played music by Loggins and Messina, C&K, Jim Croce, etc. Back then it seemed that Hawaiian music was almost non-existent. Now I play Chet Atkins type fingerstyle and have started to teach myself slack-key from Keola's books and CDs. I hope to pick up a few tips from Taropatch.
Mahalo,
Kevin

Welcome Kevin!
I think you will find much interesting information and some lively debates from time to time here. When you have a question, be sure to search the archives first, cause there is a lot of stored knowledge to be found.

Welcome to taropatch, Kevin. A search of the members list shows over 40 members from Oregon with a number from Eugene. |

Aloha Kevin and welcome to Taro Patch. There are many knowledgeable and talented folks here (not me, I know nothing) who are so generous in sharing their knowledge and expertise. You will be able to find plenty of folks in Oregon to share music with. Aloha from Cleveland, Ohio. E komo mai. |

Aloha e Kevin--welcome to Taropatch!
Would like to invite you to our monthly kanikapila next week on Friday, 9/14/07 at 7pm at the Our Saviour Lutheran Church off Coburg Road in Eugene. Potluck, meet new friends, play music until late. Plenty ukulele players to talk shop with! Bring your "He Mele Aloha" book (a.k.a. "the kanikapila bible") if you have one.
Hope to see you there, iwalani |

Hi Reid: I haven't built anything for a while, I just can't seem to find the time. I have all the stuff for several guitars (and ukes for that matter). Sadly, I am also in the process of selling my McGill to help pay for my son's college tuition. I really thought that I'd be buried with that guitar, but some things are more important. He will be attending Oregon State University in a couple of weeks.
Aloha, Kevin |

E komo mai iloko. I lived in Manoa just before moving to WA state. Another guitarist is more than welcome. Its good to know that you make 'em too. I used to want to play the stuff you used to. Maybe I still do. We can trade hints and stuff maybe. I don't know much but I like to share when I can. |

OK, I am usurping Kevin's territory (forgive me Kev), but I wanted you to see what he has done. Look particularly at the bracing and his cantilever. Innovative as well as lovely to look at - never thought the insides of a guitar could be pretty, did you?

Kevin, hope to catch up with you sometime in Duckland. Give a shout if you get down to Southern Oregon.

Reid and Mark: Sorry that some of the links are way outdated. I keep meaning to put together a real website, but so far I just have a front page at www.koguitars.com. Maybe this will give me a reason to work on it.
