So Tim Seidl (one of the DJ's at KAPU-lp FM) and I got to the concert super early, around 5 for a 7:30 show. Around 5:30 in walks Ledward and some guy named Fran Guidry (heard his name somewhere but just can't place it). Anyway Led says to Fran let's "play a little slack key", and they sit down right next to Tim and me in the empty room and just start a little pre concert jam session. Tim and I just kind of exchange glances and just sit back and enjoy a private two song set with Led and this other guy named Fran something or other.
Tickets to the show $16.00 Guacamole and chips 6.50 Ledward and Fran Priceless
Seriously Fran.....just a great show by you and Led and what a thrill it must be for you to be making music with such a treasure as Ledward Kaapana.

Markwitz, Diana and I had the same experience with Led and Fran at their show in Winters Sunday evening. A great pair of musicians who really love what they are doing and inspire me to work even harder at learning this beautiful music. Aloha, Jerry |

Hey, thanks Norman and Jerry, it was great seeing some Taropatch faces in the audience. Wanda, I played my usual opener, "Nanea Ko Maka I Ka Lealea" in the style of Ray Kane. Then I did a "Ka Makani `Olu`olu" and closed with either "Grandfather's Clock" or "Maori Brown Eyes." The experience was both humbling and inspiring, because as soon as I'd leave the stage, Led would take his seat, say hello, then this barrage and incredibly beautiful music would pour out. Playing a few songs to end the show was exciting to point of verging on terror, but it was tremendous fun to look into the audience and see all the smiling faces fixed on Led doing his magic.
I guess I can sum it all up by saying that "words cannot express."

Fran,
I had more fun watching you play with your grin on your face, looking up now and then to with an ever bigger grin.
You're a treat!

Fran Sounds like you had a great show. I am even more upset I could not get out of my conference sooner to make it to Felton. Hopefully I can get to upcoming performance. Les |
