Patrick Landeza will conduct a slack key workshop on February 8th and 9th in San Diego. This is a do not miss opportunity to get the basics and come away with the tools needed to play slack key. Stop struggling with learning songs and picking patterns. Whether you are a Beginner, Novice, or Advanced player, this 6 hour immersion in the art of slack key will be the best investment you ever made in learning the how too's of playing slack key music.

Patrick's workshop was a resounding success!!! It spanned two days and each of us got a private lesson as well. I had a particular valuable revelation: I play Salomila but didn't know what it was!

Edit: I re-made the labels to include forum names.

thanks to bob, craig and dusty for going from posing this photo to putting it on taropatch, to don for pulling the workshop together, to patrick for the great time, and to rik for hosting us and providing the pupus!
by the way, if anyone in this 'ohana is interested in getting a beautiful ipu or two, rik is the man to contact. he is quite modest about it, but his gourds are works of art.

The guy in the bottom left of the photo (whose name you can't read, and who is MUCH better looking in person) is Bob Lee.

Nor did anyone else who heard you play it! Just kidding...you play it really well...very nahenahe.
BTW, anyone know the lyrics to Salomila beyond the "Shine a light on me..." and "Take away your hand..." verses?

Thanks for posting the photo and letting us in on the event. I didn't notice the TaroPatch user names in the captions first time around. Very cool. Glad to see you guys getting together. Where are the female players? C'mon ladies! |

I looked into that several years ago, and someone sent two more verses to me. I might still have them somewhere, I can check. I recall they included the question "Are you on the pill, Salomila".... kinda "modern."

Thanks Sarah, but I'm looking for older lyrics, if there are any.

we're trying! rik's wife, donna, plays a mean ukulele, but she was off at the weekly kanikapila on saturday. and, there's a good beginning player of the female persuasion near where i live who i've been trying to get to come to our meetings...

Very nice picture. . . I was thinking, "Wow, they grow 'em tall down in San Diego" because I know Pat is tall. . . then I noticed the steps. . . |
