As I said to you in my leka uila, I'm glad your Thanksgiving was fun. Seeing 'ohana from far away is always nice.

I'm so excited for Christmas btw!

He kehau ho'oma'ema'e ke aloha.

Aloha e Verna,

Last time I was on Moloka'i, there was much concern and division because of proposed development by Moloka'i Ranch. Is that still the case?

Me ke aloha,
Lynn

Aloha e Varna!
I used to go to Moloka'i with Varna Nakihei (she works on Kaho'olawe the last time I spoke to her) in the early to mid ninities. Before that, I performed under the Banyun Tree with Butch Helemano (Reggae Music) in the late 80's for a couple of shows.
Still get hot bread at 2 in the morning? Too many memories to relive and mention.
Now living in Port Hueneme and learning slack key to help deal with homesickness (lived on O'ahu for 21 years).
Moloka'i nui a hina i ka piko o hula!

Look for reasons to be happy rather than excuses to be miserable.

Aloha e Kaniala5,
No kidding, we still have the Kanemitsu Bakey Hot Bread for sale beginning at 10:00pm. Bust da mouth- ono!! It's so funny how my family will only buy the hot bread when our off island 'ohana and friends visit us. Now I'm ono for the bread. Too bad it's Monday and the bakery is closed on Tuesdays- so no hot bread tonight.
'Ae, Moloka'i no ka heke!!
Me ke aloha pumehana, verna
PS Our entire state just got hit by ka ua loa a me na makani nui. Maui island got the brunt of the storm.

Aloha e Pualynn,
Ua pau me ka mana'o nui no Moloka'i Propertis Limited (MPL).
MPL withdrew it's EIS. MPL blames the withdrawal on "procedural errors" and "perceived inadequacies" in the recent State Land Use Commission hearing.
The sage continues!!
aloha, verna

Aloha Vernamar from Oly WA. Will be back on Molokai in May. Third visit to this powerful Island. Something gets to me as soon as my feet touch the tarmac and I smell that air. Mixure of good red dirt, brush and west end trees and the sea. Mahalo to all the fine folks who stood tall against the ranch and the Lau development. Keep Molokai, Molokai. We originally came for the Hula Piko as my wife studies ancient Hula here with Alii Naipo. Her mother, Audrey is a Molokai native living here in Olympia as well. She has been a huge inspiration to me learning slack. She has a beautiful voice and amazing spirit. She encourages me to learn the old style. "Always with the wahine tunings! stick to Kane!" she gently chids me but always encourages me to keep learning.

Carol and I feel the spirit of Molokai strongly. We have met so many friends who are now family. I love to study slack in the morning and take my old Martin out to the sea and sunset while the silence and wind inspire my efforts. It just seems easier there. I had a Ukulele made by Jade a few years ago from Koa and spruce. I am also learning some of that.

All the best to you. Thanks for sharing. We will be there for two and a half weeks this year. I can garantee some great breakfasts with French toast from Apricot/Pinapple bread from the bakery. Whoa! Thats almost sinful! Unbelievable. Maybe we will cross paths.

Much Aloha, Larry
