The inimitable Mr. Ledward Kaapana is back for another tour of some west coast spots along with singer/songwriter/twelve string guitar virtuoso Mike Kaawa. Those who saw these two on their tour last year know how spectacular their show will be. Led has asked me to open several of these shows, and I didn't think twice about accepting.
Here's Led's schedule, from his web site: http://www.ledkaapana.com/concerts.htm
Wednesday, February 6 Portland, OR Mississippi Studios 7:30 PM $16/18 Call 503-288-3895
We'll be driving up to visit friends in Portland and I'll be opening this show.
Thursday, February 7 Eugene, OR WOW Hall 8:00 PM $18/20
Heck, Eugene is on the way home, so I'll be there as well.
Friday, February 8 Seattle, WA Town Hall (Great Hall - 8th Street entrance) 8:00 PM $15 advance
Sad to say we have to get home, so we'll miss this one.
Saturday, February 9 Redding, CA Oak Song Society / Benefit Lu`au / Redding Elks Lodge 6:00 Doors open 6:30 Dinner 7:30 Concert $40 advance
We'll also be missing this one, but it sounds like a LOT of fun.
Sunday, February 10 Berkeley, CA Freight & Salvage 8:00 PM $19.50 advance/$20.50 door http://www.thefreight.org
The good old Freight is just down the road from us, I'll be opening there.
Wednesday, February 13 Felton, CA Don Quixote's Restaurant 7:30 PM $15/17 Call 831-603-2294
This is near Santa Cruz, CA and a fun spot. I'll be opening.
Thursday, February 14 Redwood City, CA Little Fox Theater 8:00 PM $18/20 http://www.foxdream.com/foxdream/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=13&cat=Little+Fox
Another great place to enjoy a show. I'll be opening on Valentine's Day.
Friday, February 15 Winters, CA Palms Playhouse 8:00 PM $20 http://www.palmsplayhouse.com/
Led and I had a ball here last year. I'll be opening this show again.
Saturday, February 16 Mill Valley, CA 142 Throckmorton Theatre 8:00 PM $30 Reserved/$20 General Adv. Call 415-383-9600
Singer/songwriter Rodney Johnson will be opening here.
Sunday, February 17 Nicasio, CA Rancho Nicasio Lu`au Show Call 415-662-2219
Faith Ako, a tremendous singer/ukulele player, will open. Halau Hula Na Pua O Ka La'akea will dance as well.
Fans of Hawaiian music already know that Led is one of the great musical geniuses of our time. He has a brilliant and distinctive style that draws on and honors his early years growing up in the remote village of Kalapana on the Big Island of Hawai`i. On top of this traditional foundation Led has built his own very personal approach, developed as a busy professional and nurtured by his continuing devotion to music. If you're a fan of acoustic guitar, you owe it to yourself to see this remarkable artist perform.
Mike Kaawa is one of the terrifically talented Hawaiian musicians who remains known mainly to locals. He has recorded three CDs, performs regularly to enthusiastic audiences on O`ahu, composes terrific new music with Hawaiian language lyrics, and seems to know _every_ traditional Hawaiian song. His energy and versatility make him a favorite among other artists, including the legendary Eddie Kamae who has built his latest Sons of Hawai`i around Mike's talents. If you're like me, you'll be a big fan after one show.
As an extra special treat, Led and Mike will be releasing a live CD recorded on last year's tour. I haven't heard it, but having seen many of those shows I know I'm going to be first in line to buy a copy. The release will coincide with the first date, in Portland.

Darn Fran, you guys just don't deliver to the hills any more. How about coming south. Led has had a great turnout at BellyUp in Solana Beach three-four times during the past years.
Anyway, break the proverbial leg.

I'll be one of the emcees at the Seattle show, as it benefits KBCS-FM, home of "Hawai`i Radio Connection." Sure wish you could be at that show, Fran. I'll play another track from your CD on the Feb. 2 show, and mention that you're opening a couple of the gigs. The new CD, "Force Of Nature," was recorded live at their show at Seattle's Triple Door last year. |

Congrats, Fran. Wow! That's lots of shows. How swell that Led appreciates your beautiful music and wants to share the spotlight with you. Why don't you guys mosey on toward Ohio long as you are traveling?
I am certain that audience will love your music (as well as Led & Mike). |

Bill and Wanda, don't take this as a commitment, but I've heard a rumor that Led will visit SoCal in April and the midwest and east in August.
Greg, I appreciate the spins.
I am sure looking forward to seeing a bunch of 'Patchers at the shows.

That would be swell to come mid-west. Even if he goes Chicago, maybe we could go there. Indiana and Illinois are flat, flat, flat when driving. (Did I say flat?). And straight. No curves in the road. Flat, flat, flat.
If they come Ohio, I'll cook them good kaukau. |

If anyone else wants to come to Ohio, I'm sure I can talk Wanda into cooking for TP members on vacation or whatever. Just give some notice for shopping. And bring music stuffs for kanikapila.. Paul |

Great going, Fran!
So I'll see you when you play at Don Quixote's.
I believe this show goes through Tommy Miller? If so, I'll be decorating the stage for you...

Julie, I'm always looking forward to the next time we get together. I have no idea of the business behind these gigs, I'm just a guitar player <grin>.
