Aloha mai kakou,
I have something to tell you that may make you feel shocked.
Well, first of all, let me tell those who don't know this already that I'm blind. That will make you understand how bad this really is.
I just got back from the doctor's office and the drug store, and it turns out that what my 'ohana and I thought was fluid that would clear out soon is actually a significant nerve hearing loss in my left ear that may be reversible and may not. I've already had my dose of Prednizone, which I'll be taking for the next nine days, and on Wednesday I'll be having an MRI done on my inner ear just to make sure that there's nothing to see that might have caused it.
Wish me pomaika'i (good luck) getting better. I'll definitely keep you all posted as the days go on.
A hui hou, 'Alika

. Well, I for one, never knew that you were blind! Certainly, your posts never gave me a clue.
I wish you the best of luck in avoiding any permanent hearing loss!

Mahalo nui loa, everybody. Your unconditional aloha means so much to me. This has been a really emotional day, and you're making me feel much happier. I have one thing to thank Ke Akua about: I still have a perfect right ear! |

My wife and I will keep you in our thoughts and prayers - especially this week since it is "Holy Week" and there's extra mana floating in the spirit world. |

`Alika - you are in my thoughts and prayers. Modern medical science is remarkable and there may be options available. Hang in there, and I'll bet there can be a good resolution to this. |

Alika,
You will be also in my thoughts. As we think of each other and send good wishes over the miles, and as we pray for miracles, large and small, for each other, we become ohana. So you have one big family cheering for you!
Hugs, Julie |

Good heavens, Alex, I've always enjoyed that great photo of you, tucked into the curl on a tasty wave, carving your way through heavy traffic, and smiling like you've just won the lottery, as all surfers do when they're in their element. You've never said anything in these posts about your blindness and nothing in your impressive profile hints that you can't see - with your eyes, at least. What a terrific and highly accomplished person you are. Learning to surf isn't easy - even for a sighted person. I'll bet there were lots of scary wipe-outs on your way to success and I'll bet also that, after every single one of them, you came up wet and sputtering but still flashing that million dollar smile of yours. Your attitude and all that you've accomplished indicate to me that you'll soldier-on through your present challenge - and you'll come out squarely on top. All of us in your Taro Patch ohana are all pulling for you, Alika, but, any way you slice it, you are now and always will be a winner. Best wishes, David |
