Well, it's been quite some time but there is finally a new song added to the TaroPatch SoundClick page...Ted Lau has contributed a beautiful duet of He Aloha No `O Honolulu (he plays both parts). Be sure to stop by and check it out when you get a chance. |

Thanks for reminding me Jack...the TaroPatch Soundclick page, for those of you who are new to our `ohana, is an opportunity to share your playing with everyone else. You don't have to sound like a pro...it's the sharing that matters. If you have something that you'd like to put up, please contact me at craig @ patchett.com. Mahalo! |

Well I just wanted to say to Ted Lau that this sounds great. Is this a traditional song? I'm also a fan of some Country & Western music & to me there is a real flavour of that music in this tune. I'd love to play it myself, does anybody know if there is tab available, somewhere, somehow? I'v only been playing slack-key for about 6 months[regular tuning about 10 years] so all I can figure out is that it's taro-patch tuning and I recognize some of the runs, but that's aboutit. Wonderful song. |

I didn't delete it...must have been a system glitch at SoundClick. Resend me the song, the info, and the picture you want with it and I'll put it up again. |

Mahalo nui for the kind comment. I used an old Tascam cassette unit (the sound in the background is not the Hawaiian tradewinds (it's the sound of the motor). The reverb unit is the sound echo generated by the walls of my bathroom. Oh well, crude but effective.
Thanks though.

Thanks Barry. Perhaps the familiarity lies simply in the 1-4-5? Or is it the two string harmonies? The flavor in my opinion rests in an understanding of the lyric. I would recommend that all take a few minutes of quiet time to reference the lyrics at http://huapala.org/He/Healoha_No_Honolulu.html , with a focus on pulling the implied meaning or 'double entendre' from those lyrics. Remember that oftimes the traditional Hawaiian songwriter was not shackled by the morays of the puritanical American way (with respect to his/her music anyway).
In putting this song together, I started with a basic melody line and just sort of 'did it' based primarily on the mele which gives rise I suppose to the 'bouncy' character of the interpretation.

Thanks Ted. I really enjoyed listening. Your playing, tascam and bathroom reverb are very effective. Sounds great! Thanks for sharing. |

Naw John, It is too a plot. The forces of evil has conspired against you. Even as you read this there are dark-suited men in an underground room changing the trajectories of incoming asteroids. Really. This one time, uhh oh, here they come with my meds... |

Craig, Just tried listening to several of the sound clips. All I get ia about 15 seconds of each, then it quits. I don't think that is normal. Any ideas? Karl |

Hey admirable,
I can assure you that you are not the only one being cut off on the freeway! This morning on my way to work, I was going 50mph (which was with the mad-rush-to-work paced traffic) on a back, local road when a red Cherokee passed me and 2 cars! IMHO, I think people are generally going crazy. If the local roads aren't safe, forget the freeway. |

Definitely not normal. Do you have a dialup connection? If so, that might be the problem. Does it quit after 15 seconds even on the low bandwidth version of the song? Regardless of whether you're on dialup or not, try using the 15 seconds to preview then download the MP3s for the ones you like and then listen to the whole song once it's downloaded. |
