The audience will be treated with a rare concert showcasing Hawaiian music, culture and its evolution. Stephen, a seasoned Slack Key artist under the guidance of his kumu or teacher Ozzie Kotani, has been gaining critical acclaim in the Hawaiian community. Shawn Livingston Moseley, a nationally ranked and credited concert pianist since the age 8, shares the sensitivity and sensibility of Neo Classical piano as inspired from his island home. Slack key Lady Cindy Combs rightfully steps into the title of Slack Key Master as she takes you on a musical journey that began in the renaissance of Hawaiian music back in the 70s and has only gotten better with age. Please visit www.aumakuarecords.com for up to date information on the artists, as well as be directed to their personal sites/music/bios and more.
BACKGROUND Stephen Inglis’ first album’s “Fringes on the Wayside” and “Driftwood”, utilizing slack key tunings on guitar, lead to his studies with Slack Key Master Ozzie Kotani. Under Ozzie, Stephen quickly gained recognition in the Ki Ho’alu community, performing locally and nationally as a solo artist, and with Ozzie Kotani, Makana and others. Stephen’s latest release “Mahina O Wai’alae” according to John Berger of the Honolulu Star Bulletin “…evokes memories of Keola Beamer and establishes his credentials as an artist who can sing in the old island style as well.” Shawn Livingston Moseley was raised on the North Shore of Oahu. A pianist since age 4, Shawn was nationally ranked in the top 10 by age 8. Leaving Hawai’i to further his studies at Berklee College of Music, Boston, he has since worked as a music producer and engineer with Dave Matthews, Metallica, and Ron Levy to name a few. Now president of ‘Aumakua he has dedicated himself to supporting artist of Hawai’i while pursing his long anticipated piano career.
Cindy Combs, internationally recognized slack key lady, from her first release “Land of the Endless Summer” established herself as a corner stone artist in the Hawaiian music and Ki Ho’alu Community. Since, her latest release “Sunny Rain” on Dancing Cat Records, Cindy continues to perpetuate her musical mastery on guitar supported by her unmistakable voice. Cindy has extensively toured and performed to audiences local and abroad.
Kalae Miles was born and raised in Waimanalo on the island of Oahu. Kalae was gifted by Hawai’i’s Foundation of Culture and Arts to study falsetto with one of Hawai’i’s most respected falsetto singers Richard Ho’opi’i, eventually becoming Richard’s honorary protégé. A subsequent mentorship that followed, Kalae studied voice and ‘ukulele under Kahauanu Lake, one of Hawai’i’s most internationally loved progressive Hawaiian musician/composers. Currently Kalae is planning a national tour in support of his debut album release on ‘Aumakua Records entitled “Ho’opono”.

He is having a CD release party at Bocci's Celler in Santa Cruz on May 3rd. Steven Espaniola plus local favorites Huna Wai and The Victor Ohana Band will also be performing. I also hear that Celina, who wrote "Lovely Lanikai", http://youtube.com/watch?v=-7iFsJSnu0M will also be there. They say there will even be some other guest performers. Since Cindy Combs and S&S(Stephen Inglis and Shawn Livingston Moseley) will be in town the next night and Kalae will be opening for them, maybe they will make an appearance. Kalae sold his last CD at www.cdbaby.com Don't know if he is planning the same for this one. I'll do some checking around and report back. |
